New data from the Zoe symptom-tracker app suggests one in two people with new coldlike symptoms will have COVID-19 rather than the common cold.
Tim Spector, an epidemiologist and the study's lead author, said in a press release on Thursday that for most people, getting infected with Omicron would feel "much more like the common cold, starting with a sore throat, runny nose and a headache," rather than fevers, continuous cough, or loss of taste or smell.
To get to the 50% figure, Spector and his team compared the number of new cases of a coldlike illness with the number of new cases of COVID-19 confirmed by a lateral flow or lab test.
According to Spector's findings, people with Omicron who reported symptoms on the Zoe app were less likely to have five or more symptoms than those with Delta.
He has found at least 20 common symptoms that are self-reported by Zoe's 850,000 weekly users. The top five are headache, fatigue, a runny nose, sore throat, and sneezing — similar to the symptoms of the Delta variant.

And exactly how trustworthy is the testing? They get more money via positive results than negative.
It still takes a virus. Cold wind causes nothing.
And i think what you have now is the common cold being classed as the covid (cold is a covid) because they did not baseline the PCR test against the common cold varieties. They are using a patented protocol so they keep the money based on the execution of the patent protocol.
This is bait imbeciles into panicking and rushing to get covid tested, so all the false positives spike the numbers up.
If this is the dominant “variant”, then the pandemic is over.
My wife just had the mildest cold she ever had this week. A couple of days of sore muscles, headache, runny nose, coated tongue. Usually a cold will keep her down for a week or more. Over and done in 3 days. Very strange.
I’m assuming it was the OhMyGawd variant.
When was the last time anyone worked themselves into a tizzy over a cold? Take some Advil, drink plenty of fluids, get some extra rest. Done.
The upshot is, if you cannot tell the difference between a cold and the latest variant of covid, then there's no real reason to care either way.
Cold weakens your immunity and makes you more susceptible to various viruses.

So when team Biden floods the country with tests which all come back positive, then what? What about treatment or just treat it like a cold and don’t panic?
I guess that’s what I have. But, I’m going to continue to call it a winter sinus cold. I’m managing to get ready for Christmas with the kids and grand-kids, although I’m taking a lot of breaks (and hubby is doing the moping of the floors).
Nah, that's the next and probably final variant.
As others have hypothesized, the "discovery" of Omicron is well timed to help push boosters. In a few more weeks when they've wrung all the fear out of it that they can, they'll declare victory over Omicron and use that for early campaigning for the midterms.
Then they'll need one more variant to ramp up fear shortly before the election to justify their push for mail-in voting. Election fraud is so much easier that way. So many ballots can be pre-printed, marked, and then "found" in the wee hours of the morning with just enough votes to push their {censored} across the finish line.
I believe it will be this next and last variant that will be blamed for causing latent damage. That way as the side effects from the vaccines begin to present and can no-longer be ignored or brushed off as "rare" they'll have their covid scapegoat. In order to make it work, the final variant of covid will have to be even milder in symptoms than Omicron. As in, "You probably have it, your family, friends, loved-ones probably have it! None of you would know! Get boosted!" I'm calling it the flea circus variant or maybe the Omega (final) variant.
Then they'll have their get of of jail free card. "Clots? Myocarditis? Guillain-Barre syndrome? You must've had the Omega variant and not known it. If only you had gotten that final booster.... Oh, you did? Well, you must've gotten it too late, you'd already had Omega before that..." From then on, we're in the phantom-menace phase. Anything and everything that goes wrong as a consequence of giving brand new, experimental therapies to 200 million people with no idea of the consequences 3, 5, or 10 years down the road... All the bad things will be blamed on the victim having gotten Omega variant without knowing it.
That there will be bad side effects that do not present for several years is a virtual certainty. There are with almost every drug/treatment. That's why we usually do longer trials to determine "contra indications." As in who should not take something. Well, we've thrown that process/procedure out the window and are giving, even forcing the vaccines onto nearly everyone. We, as a country, are in for a rough ride the next several years.
We are running 35% rhinovirus 30% COVID and 20% flu on multichannel PCR this past week - on ER patients and hospital admits, so probably overestimates COVID and flu.
It’s never going to end as along as all these young people and people my age, many of my friends, don’t stop running to get tested everytime they sneeze. Everyone I know has gotten tested but none are sick with anything more than a mild cold if that. People are so stupid. When I asked my positive friend what they give you if positive, she said nothing, but they will isolate, like it’s still 2020. All are double and triple vaxxed. Drives me crazy.
Anyone that takes a swab provided by the government and shoves it up their nose deserves not only the false positive test result they're likely to get, but also whatever happens from whatever agent is likely to be on some percentage of the swabs. If/when mine comes in the mail I am not opening it, not even bringing it in the house. I'll treat it as hazmat.
So, now Covid will be listed as just another of those 2000 viruses that give you a common cold?
If you have covid right now there’s a good chance it’s just a cold.
