It’s no secret that Sen. Mitt Romney is exceedingly wealthy. He famously installed an elevator for cars in a home he owned in California.
But, for all of his business success in the private sector, he’s amassed only the seventh-largest fortune among the 535 members of Congress.
Insider analyzed thousands of pages of financial disclosures to calculate the wealth of nearly every member of Congress.
Romney’s wealth is estimated to be just north of $85 million. Most of that comes from his time with the private equity firm Bain Capital where he rose to CEO of the firm. He also has much of his wealth in Goldman Sachs mutual funds.
The analysis says the wealthiest member of Congress is Florida Sen. Rick Scott, who is worth more than $200 million. Scott derives much of his wealth from founding two health care companies.
The 15 wealthiest members of Congress are worth more than $1.3 billion, which represents more than half of all the wealth in Congress.

That’s odd .. in 2012 Willard had $250 Million ...
Did he put more of his ill-gotten gains into those offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands ???
Maybe he had a bad day in The Market..........
These are the official amounts. What I’d like to see are the estimates of their hidden wealth. The career politicians are not up there for the nation’s good. Going to DC these days is like going to Valhalla for them. The money, power, prestige, and controlling others by power is like a drug.
“We have the best government money can buy.” - Mark Twain...............
Yeh, a lot of them have $10 million + and nothing before they got there. However, probably a lot of what they make from graft etc. is hidden.
He must have a miserable personal life if he is that rich yet decides to spend his time in Washington attending Kennedy Center events and attacking Trump and doing absolutely nothing good for America.
Correct. Mitt was said to be worth $190-250 million in 2012.
Likely political disclosure rules understate all pols wealth by 50%.
Wonder how much magic underwear he has...
Must have a lot....................
Ask the Obamas. They know how to milk the system.
Just a man of the people.
$85M makes him look like a pauper compared to some up there in DC!...............
I do not have a problem with politicians that were rich BEFORE they ever got elected to public office. Especially if they use their own money to pay for their campaigns. That way they are less beholding to special interest groups.
For example, Craig Benson used millions of his own money to run for the Governor of NH. He ran after Shaheen was in for three terms and then ran for US Senate. Once elected, Benson did something pols never do, he actually cut spending across the board in all departments. NH went from the largest deficit to the largest surplus within a two years. The NH government employees hated him. He was defeated after one term. He went back to the private sector and is now the CEO of a company. Shaheen is on her third term in the US Senate.
What I have a problem with is the pols that go in worth less than a million dollars and retire years later worth 10 million or more.
How much Pfizer does he own?
Mitt was booed off the stage at the state Rep convention last summer. The party is done with him.
We will see if they put forth another moderate surrender monkey.
The people of Utah will reelect him..............
So becoming Elon Musk’s butler would be a big step up for Mitt?
didn’t he spend about $50 MILLION of his own money in 2008 in his failed attempt to get the nomination?
