"I prefer Smith and Wesson"

When I was in the market for a 44 mag in the eighties, I read a lot of owners manuals.

The S&W pistols had a notation: Magnum loads not recommended.

Ruger had no such language in their owners manual.

I called them up and they said: Honey, shoot anything you want.

I got about 14k full house rounds through my Redhawk. (I am a reloader).

The video is full of crap. Colt didn’t invent the revolver, there are surviving revolver rifles dating back to at least 1600.

They also claim Colt invented the “assembly line.” Which also is bull. Venice Italy’s “arsenal” shipyard built ships by assembly line using standardized and interchangeable parts in the 15th Century.

That was only 12 minutes into the video and I didn’t waste MORE time watching the rest.

In talking about the invention of the Colt revolver, I’m surprised they didn’t mention the development of the percussion cap that made the development of the modern firearm possible.

do you think they might have been trying to say they invented the revolver as we know it today, with cartridged bullets?

because there obviously were revolvers of various designs before but were black powder loaded by hand versions

I have/had a Colt and a Browning. The Colt is nearly 100 years old and is a pleasure to shoot. It is very accurate. It was manufactured in 1925 and sold in Chicago in 1926. It has two distinct perfectly parallel notches scratched on the slide. Coincidence, carelessness, probably. Something more nefarious, it was purchased in Chicago in the 1920's. Who knows, but makes for a good story.

The Browning it was built in Belgium in the late Sixties and is nearly old enough to collect Social Security. Sadly it cannot because it still works. In fact I went out hunting with it on Friday. During the period when Bear and Deer season overlap, I prefer my Browning.

Sadly both weapons were lost in a boating accident off the Crystal Coast today.😪🙄

Here now, what’s the need to invoke profane imagery like that? People just now getting to this thread on Sunday morning having to read that. At least put a profanity on the FRONT of it next time, OK?

The video includes an admission that Colt didn’t invent the revolver and showed examples of much older revolvers. You just missed that part.

Yes, they claim Colt had the very first mass produced assembly line, except for clocks, which they state were also made in assembly line fashion. They state Colt first used an assembly line in the context of “mass production”. They were producing 150 guns per day. In that context, nobody had done it before, except for clock makers. Comparing that to ship building, which is a very long process, is apples and oranges.

How Colt Became America's Chosen Firearm...

Given how opinionated (& ornery ;>) gun owners tend to be, I imagine most folks have different 'chosen' firearms. For me, they are often the ones I've built myself...
