Real scientists constantly question each other, and themselves. Finding mistakes and exceptions is exciting, fun, and celebrated. Nothing is settled.

Well said. I am from a family of physicists and engineers and I agree absolutely.

Maybe I missed something; if they can’t find any flaws in General Relativity, how do they know there are any? This article is easy enough for me to understand, but some of this stuff can and does go over my head.
It is fascinating, however.
Anything that keeps this 67yr old brain’s gears moving is a good thing🙂!

I'll reserve judgment on this until Dr. Fauci weighs in. After all, Dr. Fauci is science.

PSR J0737−3039A/B, discovered in 2003, located around 2,400 light-years away,...

I have questions: how do we discover, and observe, a pulsar that is 2,400 x 5,878,625,370,000 miles away?

Inquiring minds want to know.

In this case, they’re looking at an extreme scenario where both the theory can be observed in practice (it’s hard to observe in the first place), and where any flaws should become apparent (by observation deviating from prediction).

Science assumes that any theory has limits, conditions where it doesn’t apply. If we can’t think of such limits, we try to find conditions where the theory breaks down in reality. Impressive when extremes are examined, and the theory STILL predicts accurately.

I get it. Thanks. Gotta keep those gears turning!⚙️
After looking through a telescope for years, the question becomes, “ how does all this work?” The astrophysics part of it can be quite intimidating, but the fun is showing someone the Moon, or Saturn, or a star cluster for the first time.🔭

There’s that brain-melting moment when one realizes that distant ball is a real thing simply some distance away, not just an abstract/conceptual image.

Right! I have been accused of putting a slide of Saturn in my scope! Some people find it hard to believe that they are looking at the real object.

“Two pulsars locked in close binary orbit...”

FAKE NEWS - Orbits are just ‘binary’ anymore.
