A Christmas Story House, now restored to its movie splendor, is open year round to the public for tours and overnight stays. Directly across the street from the House is A Christmas Story Museum, which features original props, costumes and memorabilia from the film, as well as hundreds of rare behind-the-scenes photos. Among the props and costumes are the toys from the Higbee’s window, Randy’s snowsuit, the chalkboard from Miss Shields’ classroom and the family car. After reliving A Christmas Story at Ralphie’s house don’t forget to visit the museum gift shop for your own Major Award Leg Lamp and other great movie memorabilia. You can even shop through our online gift shop here. Proceeds from the gift shop and overnight stays help support and maintain A Christmas Story House & Museum.

There’s a lovely documentary on Amazon Video about a couple who sets out to find all the movie locations and they end up finding a trove of wardrobe in a warehouse in Canada. At the end, they visit the house. It’s almost as much of a joy to watch as the movie itself - especially the hunt for the Chinese restaurant.

You can even spend a couple of nights there. You can rent a suite at the Bumpas' house as well.
Kind of a cute thing to have nearby. We Clevelanders are pretty proud of "A Christmas Story".

In Cleveland? I’ll pass. I avoid any larger city.

Don’t worry. Cleveland’s not nearly as big as it used to be.

I thoroughly enjoyed that show last year. The young couple are sweet and unabashedly nerdy! I love it…we need more couples like that :). It’s on my list to watch this week.

I hear ya. It's really in the Tremont area which I'd say is about 8-10 miles South of downtown proper. I think they've tried to "hip" the area up a bit. But it's still more or less urban exploration.
I avoid downtown as much as possible simply due to constant construction and stress in figuring out how and where to park.

I took my 83 year old mother there last fall. She had never seen the movie, but as we waited for our tour in the gift shop, the movie was rolling on a tv. She saw enough of it to be hooked. Loved the house.
Wife and I drove by it yesterday when we were in Cleveland. It was busy, but I heard that there was a 2 hour wait to get in the house Saturday. Zack Ward, who played Scut Farkas was there.

Hard to believe it’s almost 40 years since that movie came out (must be time for a remake, if they haven’t already done one). I still haven’t seen it, because I liked the Jean Shepherd stories.

Tremont is about 2 miles Southwest of downtown. 8-10 miles South is Parma & Seven Hills. Cleveland is a pretty geographically small city. For comparison: Cleveland is about 75 Sq Miles in area where Columbus is around 225 SQ miles.

You're obviously correct. Cleveland is small enough that Tremont SEEMS to be 8-10 miles away, but IIRC there are some spots near there where you can catch the skyline. Been a while since I've driven through, but I recall it being kind of an interesting area.
Can't remember if Ohio City is considered Tremont? Or how that dynamic works. I usually explore the areas around Akron more so than Cleveland.
