Progressives in Congress are backing a bill for a 4-day work week

Progressives in Congress are lining up behind a bill that would shrink a regular week of work from 40 hours to 32 - bringing the four-day work week to America.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus just endorsed the aptly named "32-Hour Workweek Act," according to a statement from Rep. Mark Takano, the Democrat representing California's 41st district. The caucus, comprised of nearly 100 legislators, is a key progressive voice and has made its power known during recent infrastructure negotiations.

"For far too long, workers across this country have been forced to put in longer hours as their wages barely budge," chair of the caucus and Washington state Democrat Rep. Pramila Jayapal, said in a statement.

In the US, wages have been declining for five decades, with economic growth increasingly benefiting workers less. As workers demand more from work, and refuse to work in positions that don't suit their needs, a four-day workweek has caught traction. The shorter week has been shown in other countries to keep business booming and workers happier. Its implementation into law - or at least the mainstream - could mark a pivotal moment in America's rethink of work.

"It is past time that we put people and communities over corporations and their profits - finally prioritizing the health, wellbeing, and basic human dignity of the working class rather than their employers' bottom line," Jayapal said. "The 32-hour work week would go a long way toward finally righting that balance."

20% pay cut and possible loss of all benefits. Should be popular. Even the leftist kooks are laughin' at this one.

Don’t forget a 20% cut in productivity. What’s the worst that can happen?

The people who support this don’t work at all. You would think they would want a 7 day work week for all the suckers who pay their handouts.

Exactly.

20% less productivity. 20% less pay. 20% less taxes collected.

Don’t think they have thought this thru, only playing to the impulse of “he!!, yeah, I only want to work 4 days.” But when bills can’t be paid they all wish they had that 20% pay cut back and in a hurry.

More inflationary pressure.

Four day work weeks mean that the amount produced throughout the nation will shrink by 20%.

Ergo, there will be immediate 20% inflation as the same dollars chase reduced supply.

I think they’re planning to get the same pay per week, just less hours

What’s next? Everybody all goes on vacation every year at the same time, like Europe.?

I wonder where in the Constitution it say Congress determines the hours worked in a week?

Demonrats assume shorter work weeks will make up for 8% income loss. Shorter work week = longer work days.

Sounds good to me. Maybe women can stay home and raise children, and we can eliminate 40% of corporate jobs that are useless.

If you’re only gonna work 32 hours, you’re far better getting that done in 3 days, with 4 days off.

That's one subplot of "Animal Farm". Until the donkey who did all the work died from overwork, that is.

Oh, they’ve thought it through.

Life is good...the Dem/lib/progressive dream agenda is going nowhere. Dreams such as
<><>nationalizing the administration of elections to favor Democratic candidates,
<><> packing the Supreme Court
<><> and eliminating the Senate filibuster.

Now, that frustration is mounting. The court has a 6-3 Republican-appointed majority that might overturn Roe v. Wade. How, some Democrats ask, could that have been allowed to happen?

Productivity is supremecist, racist and hurtful...

Uh what kind of a work-week has your typical progressive, socialist-believing, amoral, irreligious, post-American, gender-agnostic barnacle in our country had to suffer during covid? Getting vaxed, voting once a year (or several times) and standing in line at the dispensary when supply dwindled.

Don’t even have to deposit unemployment checks, just use prepaid cards for snacks and xbox toys.

Not a winning issue, Rats.

We are doing numerous things wrong as a country.
I’m good with no NEA, no DoE, no DHS, no TSA, no ATF, no more immigrants...
Time for the rest of the world to fix their own problems.

Bad for hourly workers.

I would like four 10-hour days.

Great question about Constitution and work hours. The problem is many in government here think they are in a EU-like system where citizens have to do whatever their betters dream up during their societal enlightenment sessions while we were founded by Don’t Tread on Me.
