Australians are officially the world’s biggest binge drinkers, but Britain and the US don’t lag far behind - featuring in the top five of the latest Global Drug Survey.

Denmark and Finland ranked at second and third in the survey of more than 32,000 people from 22 countries which collected data from December 2020 to March 2021.

The data also shows that the Irish felt the most remorse after drinking.

I’m not helping our numbers. I gave up drinking years ago.

I would quit too but I don't want to be known as a quitter.

My first exposure to Aussie drinking was when I met some of them while camping at the Grand Canyon in 1980. We offered them a beer and they said, “that’s not beer” and took us to the yuge trunk of the early 70s Grand Fury they were driving. It was packed solid with cases of Fosters.

I will have a drink when Soros, Hillary, Obama, Jane Fonda, and several other traitors to our country die.

Probably more ‘fake news’ - it looks like Russia wasn’t even included in the study...

Only 22 countries surveyed and glaringly Russia isn’t one of them. I would give them a shot for the top spot.

Both Publix and walmart seem to be increasing floor space dedicated to alcohol.

This is an enormous change from several years ago—Americans were right about in the middle along with the entire Western Hemisphere.

Any country east of the old line between NATO and the Warsaw Pact was very heavy into alcohol consumption. (I’ve been to Eastern Europe frequently and the alcoholism is out of control).

... Russia ...

I noticed the same. Any global drinking survey that doesn't include Mother Russia is bogus.

Cooper's Extra Special Bitter Ale - made in Adelaide, Australia.
You can buy the malt extract in a can and brew and ferment
and bottle it yourself. In the can before you
mix it up and brew it, the extract is the color and
consistency of molasses. Thick molasses.

Best ale or beer I ever drank - hands down.

France leads the world for the average number of drinks consumed in a year, enjoying more than 132 glasses of booze, followed by New Zealand on 122, while Australians had 106 drinks per year on average.

Not sure how Russia rates in terms of "average number of drinks consumed in a year" - but I remember a study a few years back, that included only those Russians who drank a liter or more of vodka, every single week (and apparently that volume was fairly common). That's over 13 gallons of vodka in a year. A friend who was there on business advised me that the Russians he met drank all the time - before work, in business meetings, after work, and at home. Apparently it's part of Russian culture...
