There is way too much student anger; anger that has been seeded and nourished by school boards, administrators, and teachers.
I sent my daughter off to high school this morning with a blend of regret and fear. There are threats against schools all over the map of Michigan today; copycats in the wake of the Oxford shootings.
This is not a healthy way to live.
In fact it occurs to me that there is way too much student anger; anger that has been seeded and nourished by school boards, administrators, and teachers.
Just last week Russell Ball, who taught seventh-grade health and eighth grade family consumer science at Three Rivers Middle School in Michigan, resigned because he was asked to remove a gay flag from his classroom. Ball said, "I was not going to be an active participant in the suppression and oppression of an already marginalized group that I'm a part of."
Suppression, oppression, marginalized. Is it healthy to be around someone who tosses around such heated terms all day every day? Why was this sexual hypochondriac ever allowed to drag his personal obsessions into the classroom? Has Russel Ball nothing to offer students beyond his sexuality?

Just following the model that China used during the Cultural Revolution.
Lots of professors are “qwerty” and many of them insert lifestyle comments with regularity. So much so that it takes away from the short amount of time in class with a prof who is there to help you with the course of instruction.
The problem with Russell Ball (how fitting for a gay man’s last name), is that he thinks he is in a special class and needs to be treated as such. He’s just another guy, who is messed up in the head.
I was listening to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYdhm6XfTVQ last night. It gives a pretty good overview of what’s being taught to kids nowadays.
I should have warned, it’s long, but worth listening to.
She is obviously ignorant about what science is. And what teaching is.
Excellent article, thanks for posting. It reminds me of C.S.Lewis’s book.
Lewis wrote a book called “Screwtape Letters.” It is a series of letters from a senior demon Screwtape to his nephew Wormwood, a junior tempter. The nephew has the responsibility in securing the damnation of a British man known only as “the Patient.” Screwtape gives Wormwood detailed advice on various methods of undermining God’s words and of promoting abandonment of God in “the Patient.”
One of the letters says……….
“My dear wormwood,
Be sure that the patient remains completely fixated on politics. Arguments, political gossip, and obsessing on the faults of people they have never met serves as an excellent distraction from advancing in personal virtue, character, and the things the patient can control.
Make sure to keep the patient in a constant stage of angst, frustration, and general disdain towards the rest of the human race in order to avoid any kind of charity or inner peace from further developing.
Ensure the patient continues to believe that the problem is “out there” in the “broken system” rather than recognizing there is a problem with himself.
Keep up the good work,
Uncle Screwtape.”

Home schooling makes more sense with every passing day!
Agreed.
One of the standard counter-arguments is that kids who are educated at home will miss out on the important “socialization” that takes place in government schools. Seems to me that this is one of the very best reasons to homeschool in the first place!
I don’t know how to post articles. If you think it is a good listen, would you find a way to post it for FReepers to listen to?
Why would I want my kids to socialize with a bunch of leftist, potential murderous democrat kids?
Teachers are currently drawn from those whose SAT scores are too low to make it in engineering, accounting, business, etc.
And these teachers regard themselves as being smarter than the middle class parents who have FAR better actual education.
Some years ago one of my kids was doing a cyber-charter school. I was working from home and almost fell over when I heard the teacher talk about the “hippo tense” of a triangle.
Knowing what he knows about his daughter’s destructive school, why does he send her there?
“Teaching, too, is a science. Unless they’re licensed and certified, parents aren’t qualified to make decisions about curricula.”
Makes me think of Spec 4’s in the Army, not a private and not an NCO and nobody cares what they have to say or shows them any respect. Todays teachers are an embarrassment to education.
What the hell is "family consumer science?" And why fill kid's heads with useless garbage? Oh wait, they've been filling kid's heads with useless garbage for decades.
You win the internet today.
Adolescent family shooters do exist. They don’t get as much press, because they’re not an outside threat.
School shooters tend to go after fellow students, not teachers and admin.
Not agreeing with the thesis here.
