Reviewing a lavish new Hollywood musical in the Sept. 29, 1968, issue of The New Yorker, Pauline Kael wrote, “Barbra Streisand arrives on the screen, in ‘Funny Girl,’ when the movies are in desperate need of her. The timing is perfect.” I’m tempted to say the same thing about Lady Gaga. Suddenly, she’s ruling the movies like no one else this year.
... She’s earning her buzz the old-fashioned way, by giving a performance that has to be seen, in a movie that’s being talked about the way movies used to be talked about...
I’ve never claimed to be too refined, but I take “House of Gucci” seriously. It’s a fantastic movie...Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani, the middle-class social climber who married into the Gucci fashion dynasty and did all she could to take it over, not as some operatic villainess, eyes flashing with dollar signs, but as a real-world diva who is as ruthlessly practical as she is ambitious.
There’s no doubt that Gaga is the film’s commercial spark plug. People want to see her; she’s driving the conversation in Hollywood. And who thought that a movie — not a Marvel movie but an actual movie — could drive the conversation anymore? But, of course, Lady Gaga had already done that — in “A Star Is Born,” the film that linked her, almost karmically, to Streisand, the last woman to drive a remake of “A Star Is Born” ...
Gaga, I think, has the chance to become a movie star on that rarefied level. It’s not just that she’s as good as Cher (who at her best, in “Moonstruck” and “Mask,” was a powerhouse of an actress)...It’s that she has the potential to do for movies what Streisand did: give them a human center of gravity....

HARD PASS ON GAGA IN EVERYTHING!
YUCK!
Gaga is both talented and an annoying leftist.
Both things can be true, you know.
Floor, Alyssa, Elize, Amy, Melissa, Simone, Sharon.
So many vocalists that would mop the stage with gaga.
She’s OK, competent even, but most definitely NOT in the top tier of rock musicians.
A Movie Star Looker she ain’t. Not in the Sophia Loren, old movie star types. Not even a Barbara Stanwyck.
And give me a break about Streisand. Former Nevada Governor Bob Miller wrote some juicy tidbits about her in his autobiography.
I will say that I love her stupid pop music crap and her voice is quite pretty — better than most pop divas (aside from the great Tina Turner, Annie Lennox and I’m gonna throw Chrissie Hynde in there as well.)
Madonna couldn’t sing her way out of a paper bag, Cyndie Lauper was stupid and adorable, so honestly, Gaga really doesn’t have to work very hard to rise above them.
For my money, Donna Summer had one of the best pop voices out there.
If Free Republic was around back in 1964, most of us old farts would be railing about those mop-topped boys from Britain with their out-of-tune guitars and how they'd never last.
Lady Gaga quote: “I’m from New York. I will kill to get what I need.”
'House of Gucci' dialect coach drags Lady Gaga's accent: 'It sounds more Russian'"The dialect coach has admitted that she feels Gaga did not get the Italian accent down perfectly for her role as Patrizia Reggiani.
Francesca De Martini, Italian actress and dialect coach, told The Daily Beast, “I feel bad saying this, but her accent is not exactly an Italian accent, it sounds more Russian.”
She was roasted for her portrayal in “House of Gucci”.
She’s so incredibly talented that she had to circulate photos of herself in various states of undress in order to get noticed. Rather like a prostitute (and the similarity is not coincidental).
She does have a beautiful voice.
Ha, you have the best response of all on this thread.
Decent singer but I prefer Floor Jansen.

Good singer.... the tats are off-putting.
She's a foul-mouthed bitch.
