By 1973, I stopped adding music to my listening choices. I’m 1950s and 60s. That’s enough for me.
My favorite line is, “whoa, Guadalajara won’t do”

I went to high school in Springfield, VA. Annandale is the next suburb town over, so my high school friends and I got a kick out of the lyrics.
Bard College - Annandale-On-Hudson where Becker & Fagan first met and formed a band.
I doubt about that, the 70's had Zep, Styx, Rush, and Nazereth.
78 and 79 was plagued by the disco hysteria, but there is one song from that era that when it is played on oldies radio that I turn up the volume and that is "Funkytown".
Leonid and Friends just covered this tune, check it out.
