“American” is the appellation for people from the United States (sorry, all you South Americans). “Native” in English means born of. They were not born of the United States as a people. There was no USA. Impossible for them to be that stupid ponderous phrase as a whole, except as they are native-born in the US indivcually

I used to live on an reservation. You know what happened there constantly? Stolen cars set on fire all the time, incest, drug selling/drug use, alcoholism (adult and children),so many murders.. etc. They hid the crime rates on the rez because it was the highest in the state. This has nothing to do with white people or “colonialism”. They were all die hard democrats and most of them had no clue about their own culture. You couldn’t pay me to live on one ever again.

My Cherokee friends hated being called “Native American.” When someone asked if one of them if she was Native American, she always answered “Yeah, I was born here. And you?”

I worked with a wonderful guy who is Lakota Sioux, also from a reservation. He says exactly the same thing. I learned some wonderful “life’s philosophy” from him. He also nearly killed me with laughter from time to time.

There are NO “native” Americans.

There are/have been billions of native Americans. I was born here, and have lived here my whole life. Never moved to another country. How does that not make me a native American? What about every other citizen born with American citizenship? What do you call them if not native Americans?

Well then where are those lions, giraffes, and elephants native to? They weren't born in Canada. They weren't born in Africa. They weren't born in Siberia. They weren't born in Australia. They weren't born in Japan. So where are they native to?

Sure, the species may not be historically native to the area, but that doesn't mean that an individual cannot be.
