A Thanksgiving tradition. It still makes me laugh.
To: WeaslesRippedMyFlesh
turkeys fly all the time. Domestic white ones we eat at thanksgiving not.
To: Jim W N
We have wild turkeys frequently; they fly well.
Just chase ‘em with an atv.
The turkeys with arms instead of wings don’t.

I’ve probably seen it but don’t remember.
The final episode of Newhart is all time number 1

Turkeys do fly…….they roost in tree tops at night.
They always try to out run my dogs but fail and end up flying at the last second.
Turkeys get really pissed if they’re forced to fly. Bitching the whole time, waiting in the trees until it’s safe again, clucking and complaining. LOL
To: bramps
They fly.
Generally, not far.
Usually, just up into the trees to roost and down again, but can go a distance if so inclined.
They don't soar like eagles.
Otherwise, they would be eagles.

I saw a turkey fly into my tree in the backyard. It made a loud crash and broke a couple of branches. The turkey was being chased by a turkey hawk. It stayed in the tree for three days.

Peacocks can fly. A little. Enough to get on top of my screen room and damage the screening. And they spend their nights high up in the trees, going up a few feet at a time, and gliding back down in the morning.

Actually wild turkeys fly all around the place.
Oh, yeah. My wife learned the hard way, driving up US41 north of Tampa one flew into the grille and did some damage. Wild turkeys are also a problem in the Hudson Valley and Catskills regions where we lived. Oftentimes the NY DEC extends the wild turkey season to help keep them under control.

Wild turkeys can fly a pretty good distance, actual flying and not just gliding. In N.Fla many years ago I was on Hwy 20 probably 20 miles west of Tallahassee and 3 wild turkeys flew across the road, level flight and they were moving pretty fast. Came out of the trees on one side and disappeared into trees on the other side, at least 40 yards, which was just the part I saw.

Although Slow Joe dreams of soaring with eagles he has failed to get his flock of turkeys off the ground.
