Admit it, you’ve done this: sat around with friends for hours, trying to come up with the definitive list of the funniest movies ever. Well, now here’s an – almost, sort of – statistical solution: the Laugh a Minute rating.
It comes from Lovefilm, the London-based video streaming and DVD subscription service. Lovefilm polled its members for the 10 movies that made them laugh most. Then, says spokesperson Helen Cowley, the company convened a panel to watch the movies and note "how many times [each film] made us giggle." Divide the number of laughs by the film’s length in minutes, and voilà: the Laugh a Minute score.
Even if the results aren't universal - the panel members were affiliated with the company - the methods are certainly more scientifically rigorous than sitting around chatting with your buds over beers at 11:30 at night.
Without further ado, the envelope, please.
Topping the list at three laughs a minute: the 1980 airline disaster spoof Airplane!, followed by the original Hangover and Naked Gun movies at 2.4 and 2.3 laughs per minute respectively.
Here's the full Top 10:
1. Airplane! - 3 laughs/minute
2. The Hangover - 2.4 laughs/minute
3. Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! - 2.3 laughs/minute
4. Superbad - 1.9 laughs/minute
5. Borat - 1.7 laughs/minute
6. Anchorman: the Legend of Ron Burgundy - 1.6 laughs/minute
7. American Pie - 1.5 laughs/minute
8. Bridesmaids - 1.4 laughs/minute
9. Shaun of the Dead - 1.3 laughs/minute
10. Life of Brian - 1.2 laughs/minute
"Interestingly," Cowley said, "while Lovefilm members voted Life of Brian as the funniest film, our research shows that for Laughs a Minute...Airplane! beats the Monty Python epic hands-down."

Where’s Animal House?!?
You see the problem is I have 8 bosses all telling me the same thing. I basically work really 15 minutes in a week.
national lampoons “vacation”...
tying the dead aunt to the roof of the car was hilarious...😂...
“It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”. Yes, this is one that I vote for. I rewatched it again a couple of months ago. Too funny.
Biggus Dickus scene in Life of Bryan. Kills me every time.

These threads are pretty much useless.
The reason is here are a lot of Freepers who haven’t laughed since the stone age. They are simply so serious, nothing registers.
The next reason is that this includes movies made AFTER 1970. Again, a lot of Freepers haven’t set foot in a theater since the wheel was invented.
The third, and probably most important...people find different things funny. MY version of funny probably different than yours. I respect that. I would never foist my sense of humor on anyone.
If these lists could inspire “conversation” about the silly things in life, that would be fun. But instead they inspire posts that sound like my cranky old uncles sitting at the end of the bar in the local Vets club in 1982.
So, enjoy what you enjoy. If there are movies on this list that you haven’t seen...give them a watch some day instead of sitting through the daily news. I have to imagine that a bad funny movie is better than the news.
Surprised Trading Places (1983) was not on this list.
Anything with Phil Silvers has got to be great!
A few times where appropriate, e.g. Presidential pardon of a turkey, I exclaim “I WIW WEWEESE...BWIAN!”
“Who pays when you’re dating yourself?”
I do, but at least I put out.
For me the funniest part of Blazing Saddles is at the end when the fight spills into the other production sets. I die laughing at the craziness of Mel Brooks thinking up that idea.
I agree with 1, but a close #2 is Blazing Saddles, but today’s PC culture has probably cancelled it.
Any of Peter Seller’s ‘Pink Panther’ movies are also hilarious.
Are you kidding? FReepers are hilarious and witty. People here crack wise and make me laugh out loud daily.
Hollywood Shuffle, especially the “Black Acting School” and “Sneaking Into The Movies” bits.
“He hit Bunny! Come on girls!”
Dom DeLuise directing the dance number “The French Mistake.”
You laugh so hard you are crying.
Such a GREAT movie. I agree, I want the sequel!
