I’ll tell my deer tale
We have a lot of deer passing through the neighborhood. This season we had two does with three fawns. They come around almost every day and the fawns have grown quite large.
There was one fawn that seemed not to mind the mother and would wander quite comfortably into or yard. It would come and browse and then lie down in a large patch of English Ivey for hours. Most days, the mother would show up and take it home to the nearby densly wooded an very large sink.
The fawn has seen me on numerous occasions and while leery, is not frightened by my appearance.
This morning it was back eating acorns. I stepped out and it looked at me and then resumed eating acorns
In some respects, to the fawn, my yard is home, where it grew up
I live in a residential neighborhood that was free of deer for 40 years or more
Did you even wonder why Bambi ended up being a girls name?

Awww... Similar story here, except my fence broke, and two fawns would come into my yard at night to snack on their favorite leaves and play. They were not frightened by our family looking at them. In fact, they looked very happy and content frolicking in our backyard. Then they started growing larger, and I decided I had to scare them off because they were way too comfortable. I stepped outside. They looked at me and then returned to munching on the leaves. Then I said, “Shoo!” and they darted off, never to return again. I felt so bad. :-( They were so cute. So many deer around here. One came running into a store I was working in once.
Here’s a deer in a hospital in Baton Rouge. It doesn’t do well on floor tile. Doesn’t understand escalators at all.

” Now they are camping in Churches like they own the place!”
He knew the hunters wouldn’t be in church?
Uncle Erich told the following story: His brother-in-law, Uncle Otto had been pastor in rural/small town Nebraska where attendance was pretty much consistent. Next he went to Durango, Colorado. Attendance was regular until one Sunday there were no men there. Hunting season had just opened and all were off in the mountains.

So true.
Michigan allows only One Elk in your lifetime. I haven’t taken one yet.
They’re so large, they need to be quartered in the field.
So even before they get out of the woods, lots of butchering takes place.
The deer was lost in the church because he couldn’t find the hospital so he could be “protected” from hunters by getting jabbed.
I used to really enjoy seeing occasional deer and other wildlife crossing or on side of road near prairie by my home. Ever since they built an apartment complex they are gone. I lament the fact that human beings feel the need to erect more and more sprawling structures to house people, many of whom, who shouldn’t even be here, and thus encroaching on the habitat and well being of God’s other creatures.

The Michigan DNR did a short press release stating about 70% of Whitetail Deer have Covid and to use caution.
Use caution?? What the hell does that mean??
The media ate that up like starving wolves.
It’s so idiotic.
Doesn’t seem to be stopping hunters as it was intended to do.
So you might be on to something. 😆
Apparently there’s a bunch of hunters french kissing dear !
That is the same thing my wife and I thought immediately. You would think that people who live in a place where deer would get into a building would have a minimal understanding of how to herd animals. But my wife and I both came into contact with a lot of animals growing up.
A residential neighborhood was built behind my family's acreage. Our cows used to get out frequently, by the time I was around 10 I was expected to herd them back into the fields, often alone if an adult was not available to do the job. One of the first things I learned was not to panic the cows if you wanted them to get them to go in the direction you wanted them to.
All of our cows had horns which freaked out the people who lived behind us because they thought that every cow with horns was a dangerous bull. These panicky people often caused problems for those of us trying to get the cows back where they needed to be. The mature bulls were larger but typically much more lazy and docile than the cows and typically didn't bother to go on these excursions.
I have a sad story about how the police shot a kid's prize 4H cow as it was eating in the middle of some blackberries because they claimed it was a “wild range cow” and was too dangerous to approach. The animal was more of a pet than livestock.
Lol, now, that buck deserves to stay off the dinner plate for ingenuity alone lol
[[No, it isn’t. Males get filled with hormonal rage every rut—during deer season—and do lots of weird and dangerous things to themselves]]
Kinda like us men at stag parties
“ Why does the whitetail rut start/end so early in Northern Michigan? The official peak rut start date here in Pa was
12Nov this year. Would be interested to know why. Thanks”

Because of winter. We have very harsh winters here.
I think it was in 2018 we got so much snow a couple of days before opening day that Deer Season was effectively cancelled although not officially.
There was at least 3 feet of snow on the ground. Can’t walk in it, or drive in it. A snow mobile was the only way.
The DNR asked land owners if they were cutting down any trees to leave the buds exposed for the deer and food was dropped for them in various harder it areas.
The deer here have to be done with their business of reproduction before winter arrives which can come in Oct, and last into May.
Winters are longer, colder and 12 feet of snow on average a season.
My Son in Law is from PA. Very nice young man…..he was surprised how Michigan’s weather is so different.
