Bruce Springsteen is reportedly looking to sell his recorded music and publishing catalogs, and he stands to make a massive payday if a deal goes through.
The Boss is negotiating with Sony for the sale of his album catalog, though it's unclear yet whether the company will also purchase his publishing rights, Billboard reports. The publication estimates his album catalog to be worth between $145 and $190 million, while his publishing could fetch between $185 million and $225 million.
Springsteen's combined catalogs are estimated to be worth between $330 million and $415 million, and sources say the superstar's camp is seeking upward of $350 million for both.
These supersized figures reflect one of the most popular and celebrated bodies of work in rock history. According to the RIAA, Springsteen has sold more than 65 million albums in the U.S. alone, including the 15-times platinum Born in the U.S.A., the six-times platinum Born to Run and the five-times platinum The River.
The rocker is not merely coasting on former glories either. Since the beginning of 2018, Springsteen's catalog has collected 2.25 million album-equivalent units, buoyed by 2019's Western Stars and 2020's Letter to You, both of which debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
If Springsteen inks a deal, he will be just the latest in a long line of rock luminaries to unload his catalog for a huge sum. In January, Neil Young sold 50 percent of his catalog to Hipgnosis Songs Fund for an estimated $150 million — a healthy payout, but nothing compared to the sale of Bob Dylan's publishing rights to Universal Music Publishing Group, which likely exceeded $400 million. Other artists to recently sell their publishing rights include David Crosby, Stevie Nicks, Journey and Nikki Sixx.ium=referral
I will bid.......Zero.
I saw that and he let Obama insult Clarence Clemmons and Bruce said nothing and let him do it
Him, Bon Jovi, and Mellencamp get on my nerves. Most overplayed musicians on the radio. You can also throw in Journey and the song Piano Man. Anyone who can sing the line “Sucking on chilidogs...” does not deserve to be heard.
How did he insult him?
Obama and Springsteen are two vile, disgusting, racists.
If anything, Springsteen is too self-satisfied to realize that Obama is insulting him. He's saying fans of Springsteen's music are racists. [Not a fan, but I doubt most of his fans are racist.]
Johnny Ramone was at least a big conservative though.
Bwahahahahahahahaaaa.
Phucking worst singer of all time....
Way, way past his expiration date. Wouldn’t pay 5 cents to hear his “noise”.
Does his daughter need an even more expensive horse to make her win, now?
Yep. It’s insulting to him, his fans and to Clarence. Obama’s white half thinks Clarence is the N word.
Wonder if I could buy it to bury it for all time?
ya, I will join the chorus of ‘never liked his stuff’. I cant think of a single song of his that I liked. I wonder if most of his popularity was because his sound was confused with Bob Seger.
Wish him the best. Never cared for his music, really.
When he pops up on the radio I immediately yell out, "Ugh! It's Bruce Sh*tstain! Turn that crap off, baby!" And then my wife immediately changes the station.
415 million for one decent song (Because the Night)?
Not even worth one dollar (to me); I never cared for his music.
“Does his daughter need an even more expensive horse to make her win, now?”
Funny, best I can figure her horse is a lot better than her riding capabilities. She couldn’t even make the round of 30 Olympics finals in individuals. Her horses name? Don Juan van de Donkhoeve, haha, talk about pretentious. In all fairness she won a medal in the Team Competition.
“415 million for one decent song (Because the Night)?
And Patty Smith had as much to do with writing that song as Brucey.
I’ll start the bidding at $415 dollars.
