I'm putting in my two week notice tomorrow.
11/2/21 | Dallasbiff

Posted on 11/01/2021 10:08:44 PM PDT by DallasBiff

I have been very unhappy at work lately.

I don't want a pity party, but my superior, stated that she wants a written two week notice.

I am not going to write a standard "I'm putting in my two weeks notice", but I wish to convey my discontent at current management.

I have worked there for almost 4 years and the last six months of 2019 were the most enjoyable of my work life.

The pandemic changed everything.

Why are you giving them what they want?

Whatever issues I had in my previous position showed up at my next position too. If there’s things you don’t like about your current job, you’ll likely find those same issues at your next job.

Don't want to get into an argument with you over this one, Samurai_Jack, but while that may have been your experience, I would hardly elevate it to the status of a "hard-and-fast" rule.

In my personal experience, every company had its own, individual quirks and problems. Of course, the common factor - when it came to "friction" - in every scenario was me. So my natural, e.g., obstinacy and perfectionism would always collide with, e.g., the lack of consistent quality control prevalent in smaller companies - or with, e.g., the lack of accountability in larger firms.

Regards,

Don’t. Give a gracious thank you for the opportunity of working there. You have found a new opportunity of significance elsewhere

Well I'm not showing up today.

I'm done, especially after when the former female prison guard, stated, that "I was abandining my shift", even though. I had the permission of a co-worker, that it was okay to go.

Make them fire you. Go back and document what you can.

This gets you Unemployment money. It’s yours.

If your performance ratings were good, and they have any discrimination pattern, you can win a lawsuit if you want.

This also buys you time - look for another job.

She is trying to make you do exactly what you want to do. She will use this to bad mouth you going forward.

If this is a company with a formal HR process, then ask to speak to an HR representative, explain that you have over three years of good performance, and ask to be put on a documented performance plan (essentially probation) to document your work improvement.

This will force your supervisor to have to write up performance evaluations for you, which will also be a performance evaluation of your supervisor as to her skills in assessing your skills and improvement over the next few months.

It won't endear you to your boss, but it will put your boss in the spotlight with you.

On the other hand, if this is a smaller business that makes it up as it goes, then perhaps it's better to look for another job. People are looking for workers all over.

Don’t be negative and don’t burn any bridges. Always remember any future employers will look at tour current employer as a reference.

I have worked there for almost 4 years and the last six months of 2019 were the most enjoyable of my work life.

The pandemic changed everything.

The world has changed and thousands are leaving their positions everyday. What is happening has even been dubbed, “The Great Resignation.”

What many fail to realize is the nation’s workforce is going through a grieving process of letting go of the past and facing the “new normal.”

As you sit down to write your resignation letter consider your own emotions regarding the ‘new normal.’ It sounds like you are grieving by your statement here. And you are not alone in that emotion. The pandemic really did change just about everything.

Change is happening all around us right now. Shots, masks, mandates, OSHA rules, crazy people over this virus, heavy workloads, supply-line issues...there’s a lot happening. Don’t let your current state of mind cloud your professional judgement over a two-week resignation, it is not worth it.

As far as your resignation letter: keep it short and professional.

“My advice, don’t burn any bridges. You may need a reference later on. Do not put anything in writing that can be used against you. If asked, you can state your reasons verbally.”

Many companies don’t write letters of recommendation anymore for fear of being sued. They only provide a statement of how long you worked there.

“So my natural, e.g., obstinacy and perfectionism”

I didn’t mean to imply that some people are not perfect. Of course you are exceptional in every way.

Good luck.

All they want is a letter confirming that you quit so they document that for HR purposes. Just write Dear XXXX This letter is to confirm that I will be resigning (or leaving) from the company effective Nov xx, 2021. Your name. There is not reason to be negative and, as an officer of a company, I can assure you that a scathing exit letter from a disgruntled employee will not be forgotten or in your long term interest. Especially in light of covid

same for me. the company was going great guns until the rona. It was actually pretty good during the “plandemic” too. The work load was lighter traffic was lighter and we really caught up on old tasks.

The company didn’t lose money in 2020, but they didn’t make as much as 2018 so they tried to make up for it by overloading the system in 2021 and since July, we lost four people and I’ll be five if the stars align. We went from working eight hour days in March, to working 14 hour days almost overnight. The boss’ eyes got filled with $ signs when the big bids came across his desk so they said “yes” to everyone that called now we’re overbooked through February/March. Not by a little, but by 25-30%. There is no way we can fulfill that.

Three of the four just quit without a job. They burned out and they all pretty much said the same thing, “I’m tired and I just can’t work here anymore”. Total mismanagement and they put all of us remaining employees in an incredibly bad position.

Don’t know what rules are in your state but in Michigan you are disqualified from unemployment benefits if you voluntarily leave your employer and the burden of proof is on you to prove your leaving was involuntary or the leaving was voluntary with good cause attributable to your employer.

Put your hand in a bucket of water. Pull it out. The hole you leave is how much your employer will miss you when you're gone.

Stick solely to the facts - I'm leaving, effective this date. Thank you for employing me. Done.

You're not going to change the company, your manager, or their worldview. You won't ever get revenge on them. Don't go away mad, just go away. Get another job, and hate them all you want from afar, but WITHOUT posting anything on the internet about it (you can get sued for that). Leaving is the best thing you can do for yourself, so get it done without drama.

I didn’t mean to imply that some people are not perfect. Of course you are exceptional in every way.

To label oneself a "perfectionist" is not necessarily to claim that one is oneself perfect or always achieves perfection - merely that one continually strives for it or at least holds it as a goal.

Good luck.

Thanks! And to you, too!

Having been on both sides of this. You’re looking for confirmation. You are not ready to leave. You don’t want to leave. What you want is for the company or boss to do X. Whatever X is. Well, they won’t. It doesn’t matter what X is or why they won’t. But, they won’t.

My advice is, work until you have a better or at least a different job.

When I worked for General Dynamics I found myself repeating under my breath, “I’m just here for the money.” I did the best job I could and gritted my teeth.

Lots of people are expecting something from work and are disappointed it isn’t there. They want to feel fulfilled. Or, they want an emotional interaction. Or, they want a sense of family. Work is just a means of survival. Nothing more.

Think carefully about what you really want and why you want it.
