I have been very unhappy at work lately.
I don't want a pity party, but my superior, stated that she wants a written two week notice.
I am not going to write a standard "I'm putting in my two weeks notice", but I wish to convey my discontent at current management.
I have worked there for almost 4 years and the last six months of 2019 were the most enjoyable of my work life.
The pandemic changed everything.
Mods you may pull if you wish.
I’m not sure what suggestions you are looking for if you want to write a non-generic message but don’t tell us the circumstances.
Generally I suggest keeping it professional even if you don’t like your boss as you can’t rule out the possibility of your boss saying “Look how unprofessional this person is” and sharing your note with people who don’t know either of you.
For me personally, I’d say something like “Per your request, I am quitting XYZ corporation effective 11/15.”
What happened? Are they mandating you get the vaccine?
First, is it that your boss IS booting you and asked you to submit notice, OR is it that IF you leave your job, she’d LIKE two weeks notice?
Second, find a new job to go to before jumping from your current job. It is always more attractive to a future employer if you are actually currently employed, AND your gap to the next job may be much longer than you think.
Third, keep the letter simple and professional. If they have an exit interview, keep it factual and professional. Don’t burn bridges if at all possible.
take the high road. make your best suggestions. it’s your last act, try to improve the place on your way out.
for your own peace of mind: forgive those who wronged you. pray that the place gets better. stay in contact with the people you worked well with.
my two cents.
Good luck FRiend.
My advice, don’t burn any bridges. You may need a reference later on. Do not put anything in writing that can be used against you. If asked, you can state your reasons verbally.
They want a notice because it’s cheaper for them if you quit.
What happens if you don't comply? Will she fire you?
YOU can leave anytime YOU decide.
That’s pretty standard.
From someone who has been fired, and quit, numerous times
Unless you contemplate a later lawsuit or something like that I would just write a standard resignation letter.
“I will be leaving in two weeks. I appreciated my time here. Best of luck to every one in their future endeavors.”
Or some such bs.
The shorter the better. Curt. One line.
Sumthin like
As of Nov 14, 2021 I am resigning from my position at XYZ corp.
Suggestion: Save the best/worst of your expressions for AFTER you have received your last check and a letter of recommendation if you need/expect one.
I say that from experience. I have burnt my bridges in my younger years. Most of us who feel unappreciated would like to go out with an emotional :BANG:, shaking our coworkers and supervisors to their senses, making them realize how unfair the situation was. But supervisors can be INCREDIBLY petty when someone points out their mistakes.
I would also advise not spilling your guts online either.
Not for the first year or so. They will be looking to see if you malign the company in some way.
Good Luck to you, but play it calm and professional for now.
Confide in NO ONE who will still be working there.
No vaccine mandate, just a 20 something newly appointed supervisor on a power trip and her ally superior a former prison guard with tatss all over her.
Yes, DB, make sure that if they force you out, that you don't do anything that puts your unemployment insurance at risk.
You paid in to this involuntary insurance system, you should be able to withdraw if unemployment isn't your choice.
First, if you are so disgusted with them, why do you want to give them the time of day, much less any knowledge of your feelings? Seriously.
If I go to a restaurant, I don’t bother to complain unless I’m basically happy with the restaurant and am interested in returning once my complaint has been dealt with. If I am disgusted with the place, I leave...shake the dust off my feet...and don’t return. Nor do I think about it unless somebody I like wants to go there.
Same thing with a barber, a grocery store, a mechanic, etc. If they lose me, they’ve lost me...including any emotion.
Consequently, I would make a very terse resignation: “To whom it may concern, please be aware that I am resigning my position of ___(official job title)____ effective ___________. Respectfully, DallasBiff.”
Then if HR gives you an exit interview, don’t give them the satisfaction. e.g., “Why are you leaving?” “To move on with life.”
(My suggestion is to have all of your personal effects removed and any personal documents, such as your contacts list, exported and exfiltrated off your work computer prior to submitting your letter...in case your work decides that they don’t need the notice...that happens from time to time)
.
I will say a prayer for you.
Just write down benefits and consequences of each side of your decision, and non-emotionally decide.
Is it possible your letter may not even make it to who you hope to address?
Good Luck!

Decline the exit interview, as they will mine it for material to discredit you. Give them nothing. You owe them nothing.
