A location manager for “Rust” says at least four people were responsible for checking the weapon that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins — including gun-firing star Alec Baldwin.
“A massive mistake was made,” Stacey Mickey-Evans told Australia’s 92.5 Triple M Gold Coast.
“There are massive protocols to stop these things from happening. There are multiple checks for it,” she said Sunday.
She noted that the armorist, assistant director and the key grip are supposed to “check the gun … no matter what’s going on on set.
“And then very lastly, the actor checks the gun,” she said of Baldwin, who was also one of the movie’s executive producers.
“So there are four to five people in this stage,” she said, but “somehow there was a failure.”

Steve McQueen was a legendary motorcycle racer…
Lock him up, lock him up, lock him up.
“I hope the husband lawyer sues the out of this pig, Baldwin.”

The people who are to have a gun pointed at them certainly should check (I know I would), but the person who actually pulls the trigger has the final responsibility. Anyone, no matter who, could say, “Cold gun!” to me all day long, and then I’d check the load. And then I still wouldn’t pull the trigger if the gun was pointed at someone I didn’t intend to shoot.
Depending on the laws there, that will likely be another charge- but he’ll likely also be charged with negligent homicide
“Negligent homicide refers to the killing of another person through reckless or negligent behavior. It differs from other forms of homicide due to the implied lack of malice and intent.
What is Negligent Homicide?
Homicide is used to denote the killing of one person by another. The negligent homicide meaning is the killing of another person by acting negligently or without malice. A subset of homicide, various states define this crime differently.
Some statutes do not include the term negligent homicide while others use it interchangeably with involuntary manslaughter. In other states, laws define both crimes and make a clear distinction between the two.”

Thank you. I was never aware the actor was to make a confirmation as well.
Why is no one describing what happened?!!!!
Was he “acting” when he shot and killed her?
Or were they standing around and someone handed him the gun at which time he pointed it at her and fired just “for fun?”
“flipping the cylinder out”
Cylinders in vintage single-actions Don’t flip out.
It does feel like a Columbo episode.
Someone put a live bullet in the wrong place. Who had the motive to do that?
Yes, it could have all been an accident, but this one is a doozy.
And if this were any sort of complex homicide scheme, was the “right” person killed? Was there an expectation that Baldwin might fire his first blank at the (let’s say) the caterer because he always did that, because it always amused him to make the caterer jump? Did someone hate the caterer? and hate Baldwin? And did Baldwin deviate from his routine and fire his first blank at someone else?
Again: probably a simple, tragic accident, but you could see how this could be a plot to a TV mystery.
That's what I mean. None of this stuff is for amateurs.
Well after witnessing the FBI track down Laundrie, I'm sure they will get to the bottom of this case.
Thanks. Considering the wad that retains the powder can kill at close range, wouldn’t a dummy round also kill?
“Why is no one describing what happened?!!!!”
Just because you don’t here the tree fall in the forest ...
Did they have loading gates?
A dummy (inert) round is used specifically when the gun is pointed toward the camera, unless the camera is operated remotely. It allows the viewer to see the bullets in the cylinder, giving it a realistic look.
That also suggests to me it was supposed to be dummy rounds, rather than blanks.
“Thanks. Considering the wad that retains the powder can kill at close range, wouldn’t a dummy round also kill?”
A dummy round should have neither wad nor powder nor primer.
Not in a MILLION years would I allow ANY gun to be pointed at me, not a chance in hell, I don’t care how reassured anyone is about it... including my own checking.
The gun should NEVER have been pointed and fired at any person.
Is a MOVIE.
Forced perspectives and dead targets can make it look on film exactly as though you are pointing at someone without actually having it aimed anywhere near them.
I have no doubt when the investigation is all said and done, the list of safety protocol failures on this set will be numerous, even if you filter out the ones that lead to an actual bullet being in the gun.

Ignorance (dumbness) is absolutely no excuse. Baldwin is 63 years old; he’s been in the ‘business’ about 40 years and in those 40 years he has participated in films that had guns. No way was he completely ‘ignorant’ on gun safety. No way. He ignored safety protocols because he is arrogant and lacks the ability to think things through or consider anyone else besides himself.
