A location manager for “Rust” says at least four people were responsible for checking the weapon that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins — including gun-firing star Alec Baldwin.
“A massive mistake was made,” Stacey Mickey-Evans told Australia’s 92.5 Triple M Gold Coast.
“There are massive protocols to stop these things from happening. There are multiple checks for it,” she said Sunday.
She noted that the armorist, assistant director and the key grip are supposed to “check the gun … no matter what’s going on on set.
“And then very lastly, the actor checks the gun,” she said of Baldwin, who was also one of the movie’s executive producers.
“So there are four to five people in this stage,” she said, but “somehow there was a failure.”

Whoever holds the gun is “responsible” for checking the gun and it’s safety. It’s that simple.
Guns don’t kill people. Stupid people with guns kill people.
This is the safety protocol I would expect. Sounds like a few people screwed up.
[[“And then very lastly, the actor checks the gun,” she said of Baldwin,]]
And there it is- Negligent Homicide on his part-
but really- the person to check ‘lastly’, should be the ones who have the guns pointed at them in scenes- They should be assured by checking themselves, that the guns that are going to be pointed in their directions are safe-
Feels like there is more to the story that 'scab prop guy messed up'
I’ve worked on multiple shows and don’t recall the actor using the gun is to check if it is loaded or not. Many actors have never held or know how a gun works. Any feedback from my Hollywood/NY peeps?
Something happened with arec barwin and a firearm? 😏🙌
Just a hunch - I bet he was also drunk, or high.
I swear, I hope they did a blood test, hair sample and breathalyzer on him.
The protocol for dummy rounds, which can’t be distinguished visually, is to point the gun at the ground, away from any person, and pull the trigger (or in the case of an SSA, cock the hammer and pull the trigger,) as many times as there are cylinders.
And a couple more times for good measure.
Had that been done with the gun in question, any live round would have been revealed before a dangerous situation occurred.
“Guns don’t kill people but people like Alec Baldwin do”.
Yes, it’s that simple.
you never hand over, or receive a gun without verifying that it is clear. period
Then it's good they never hold one. Just like any prop, if they don't know how to use it they shouldn't. I imagine Steve McQueen knew how to ride a motorcycle or he wouldn't have been allowed to ride one in a movie.
[[I think the thing that confuses me most is why they even have live ammo on a film set ]]
its so that all the liberal hypocrites can take breaks and have fun shooting those icky guns they love to rant on and on about-
I hope the husband lawyer sues the shit out of this pig, Baldwin.
Baldwin should end up.sleepung under a bridge , pushing and shopping cart holding the last bit of rubbish he owns or controls.
I bet he was also drunk, or high.....or arrogant.
The person who holds the gun and fires it is responsible for all the effects of the bullet. One cannot give this responsibility to anyone else. That rule was imprinted indelibly in my brain by the retired cop who gave me the pistol safety training.
When someone hands you a gun, you must check it.
