The people who are to have a gun pointed at them certainly should check (I know I would), but the person who actually pulls the trigger has the final responsibility. Anyone, no matter who, could say, “Cold gun!” to me all day long, and then I’d check the load. And then I still wouldn’t pull the trigger if the gun was pointed at someone I didn’t intend to shoot.
