A location manager for “Rust” says at least four people were responsible for checking the weapon that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins — including gun-firing star Alec Baldwin.
“A massive mistake was made,” Stacey Mickey-Evans told Australia’s 92.5 Triple M Gold Coast.
“There are massive protocols to stop these things from happening. There are multiple checks for it,” she said Sunday.
She noted that the armorist, assistant director and the key grip are supposed to “check the gun … no matter what’s going on on set.
“And then very lastly, the actor checks the gun,” she said of Baldwin, who was also one of the movie’s executive producers.
“So there are four to five people in this stage,” she said, but “somehow there was a failure.”

There is no such thing as “Idiot Proof”.
There is only “Idiot Resistant”.
The ingenuity of idiots knows no bounds.
The ‘’media’ keeps trying to portray this as an accident, as in ‘the gun misfired’ and now ‘other people made a mistake and did not check the pistol’.
This is looking more and more like an intentional homicide.
Who brought the live round on the set? Who had access to the weapon once it was cleared with the armorer? Was there any tension between Baldwin and these people killed and injured?
Truman Capote famously said "actors are dumb". While there have been intelligent actors who knew how to handle guns (people like Gary Cooper or Charlton Heston come to mind), I suspect most actors really are pretty dumb (based on their political comments, that seems to be true). I don't think safety with guns should ever come down to whether a flaky movie star checks his or her gun. Can you imagine some dipshit like Alyssa Milano knowing how to check a gun?
I think Arec Barrwin's culpability will come down to his being the producer and having apparently hired incompetent prop people and thereby running an unsafe film shoot.
“but really- the person to check ‘lastly’, should be the ones who have the guns pointed at them in scenes- They should be assured by checking themselves, that the guns that are going to be pointed in their directions are safe...”
Nope. It all comes down to the person holding the gun at the time of firing.
Guns don’t kill people, Alec Baldwin kills people.
Trump never shot anyone, can Alec Baldwin say the same?
He was shooting a revolver. The ammunition in a revolver isn't hidden in an internal magazine; the business ends of the cartridges are plainly visible from the front without even flipping the cylinder out. Wouldn't a simple final external inspection have revealed that were bullets loaded rather than the crimped end of a blank cartridge?
The one having the gun pointed at them has the right to know themselves whether the gun is loaded or not-
IF you’ll note- i said He was guilty of negligent homicide- We are talking about a chain of checks- not culpability - He obvious is culpable- but again- the last person to check should be the one who will have a gun pointed in their direction - they have a right to know first hand if the gun is safe or not-
According to Variety,
“Rust” had seven production entities listed as backing the film: Alec Baldwin’s El Dorado Pictures, Thomasville Pictures, Cavalry Media, Brittany House Pictures, Short Porch Pictures and financiers Bondit Media Capital and Streamline Global.
Or, for better safety, have a clearing barrel on set.
they apparently use ‘dummy rounds’ that ‘look real’ when scenes call for the gun to be viewed where the audience can see the cartridges i n the cylinder- so they want them to ‘look as real as possible’ - but still- IF they used those types- the actor should have checked to make darn sure they were dummy rounds and not the real deal- He’s the one with the weapon in his hands now, an has the final responsibility to make darn sure it’s safe-
According to experts speaking about movie set scenes— the guns should not even be pointed directly at people- angles should be used to give the illusion that they are pointed directly at-
I’m a private pilot and rent planes. You think I’m going to depend on some kid to preflight inspect my airplane? No way ever! PIC... Pilot In Command... is always 100% responsible for the safety of his plane/crew. Same with guns and whoever’s finger is on the trigger. Alec knows this. He made a fatal error.
“Whoever holds the gun is “responsible” for checking the gun and it’s safety. It’s that simple.”
Additionally, anyone near the line of fire is required to check the gun.
In the military there are barrels with which one empties one’s gun on entering base or so. After a transport flight for instance. Why wouldn’t a multi million dollar movie set have one or two of these $40 items and train the actors to regularly shoot in to safety check?
An actor who’s going to use a gun should be certified to handle the gun fake, blanks or loaded. Just like in the military. I mean they’re getting paid, why not put forth a standard that any busy military outfit can manage.
Wonder how many people who get caught red handed after shooting and killing someone, claim they thought the gun was unloaded and the police don’t arrest them immediately? Probably none. Then again being a Hollywood, anti Trump, liberal icon has its privileges. Don’t expect cops controlled by Democratic politicians to do a real investigation or Soros financed DAs to seek justice. The fix is in.
“...The protocol for dummy rounds, which can’t be distinguished visually,...)
.
If they were doing the scene they claim, ballistic shields are used in front of camera crew.
Not adding up.
.
“And there it is- Negligent Homicide on his part-”
Involuntary Manslaughter.
Safety demonstrations are done with all cast and crew involved in firearm stunts who are instructed that prop weapons should never be pointed at another actor or crew member. In scenes where a weapon is pointed and aimed at the camera, ballistic shields are used.
“Ballistic Shields are used.”
