The armorer is going down for this.
It was a “low budget” production after all.
Even though he’s a liberal gun-control douchebag I still feel bad for the guy.
Funny thing is, Republicans are expressing sympathy for him, Democrats are politicizing it by saying how are those evil Republicans are going to politicize it.
There it is again: “The gun that killed”.
The gun didn’t ‘do’ anything.
Utterly unprofessional. Zero excuse for that. The guns should have gone into a safe bubble under the strict control of the armorer.
It’s truly incomprehensible that they took them out sometimes for recreational shooting. And two or three discharges already?
There are people sitting in prison in New Mexico today that killed a friend at a party by horseplay with guns. Lets see if Hollywood gets the same treatment.
Wonder how long it is going to take to getting around to thinking it was sabotage by some disgruntled stage hand.
“Another source who was on set told the outlet that when cops arrived they found live ammo and blank rounds stored in the same area”.
Incomprehensible breach of safety to have live rounds on the set for horseplay later.
Also interesting. Hollywood rails against guns constantly, but the minute they get to a state where shooting is freely allowed, they rush out like kids at summer camp to shoot real guns.
Baldwin the actor may be be OK but Baldwin the producer will see some lawsuits as well as those responsible for handling the guns.
This will result in either a major revamp of procedures for guns on sets or possibly kill the use of any real guns on sets.
There was a tragic unintentional homicide on a movie set with a gun fired by arik barwin?
Interesting that the movie RUST is about an accidental killing....and Baldwin wrote the script.
Something doesn’t smell right about this.
Calling it a “prop” gun confuses the identity of the firearm. If it discharged a live round, it was obviously an operable firearm. The military has strict rules for the handling and dispensing of live ammunition and it’s not rocket science, but the rules have to be scrupulously observed. This incident validates what we have always believed about the intellect in the film industry, which is revealed in the quality of their product is especially obvious when they go off script. With few exceptions, they’re idiots.
The fact that the crew was reckless and incompetent lessens Alec Baldwin’s culpability, but it doesn’t eliminate it. He’s still an adult, he still is responsible for his actions. Which were grossly negligent.
It doesn’t matter whether someone says “cold gun” - the actor has a responsibility to check for himself. In fact, that is part of the protocol. As Reagan & Gorbachev once said to each other, “trust, but verify”!
May have been loaded? What degree of lame/ignorant reporting is this?
The rank stupidity of this jour-NO-list' reporting of the event can hardly be matched, let alone superseded.
It was a real gun (a Colt) with a real bullet in it.
It didn’t “malfunction.” He pulled the trigger and it worked as designed.
A simple inspection of the weapon would have revealed an actual bullet was loaded. Five second inspection.
Baldwin hired the incompetent people on his set on the cheap as he was a producer on the project.
Negligent homicide.
His only home is that for political reasons (future film productions) the DA won’t indict him. Likely they’ll offer to pay off her family quickly.
Maybe I don’t understand filmmaking but why should live ammunition be on the set at all?
That sounds like how the bullets got there, that the guns were used for target practice. There is no legitimate reason that live rounds should have been stored on set. That alone should be enough for manslaughter charges against the armorer and others.
It sounds like there were previous discharges of bullets and apparently nothing was done to investigate or correct the problem. Seems like a major oversight by the producer (Baldwin), the director, and the armorer.
I do not know much about guns, unlike other here. However, I thought mid 19th century small arms did not have the velocity of current weapons. It seems like it would be hard to kill one person and wound another with the same bullet. I am suspicious of that story. Was more than one live round fired or was it fired at close range? Also, since you should not be aiming at anyone, particularly not an actor, how do you aim the gun so that you hit two people!?
Supposedly, Baldwin’s net worth is $60 million. I doubt he will be bankrupted by lawsuits, since only one person was killed.
I do not mean to be prejudiced about age and gender, but WTF with the armorer. Maybe she was hired due to all of being cheap, connections, and favors.
Was Baldwin given a drug and alcohol tests? If not, why not?
Short tik-tok video of the armorer. Bad language. you don’t want her anywhere near a movie set:
