The prop gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on a New Mexico movie set had been used by crew members offsite for fun, a new report claims.
The gun, which was fired by Alec Baldwin on the set of the movie “Rust,” may have even been loaded with live rounds when it was used for what was essentially target practice, TMZ reported.
Multiple sources connected to the production of the film told TMZ that the gun was fired at off-the-clock gatherings – which could explain how a live round found its way into the gun’s chamber.
Another source who was on set told the outlet that when cops arrived they found live ammo and blank rounds stored in the same area, where the fatal mix-up could have occurred.

This might be a real come to Jesus moment for Alec Baldwin. Alec spewed a lot of hate. This is a good time for Christians to pray for him and not return the hate that evil wants.
A prop gun is a real gun. It’s simply listed as a prop. Notice we have yet to be told what kind of gun it is AND where it originally came from.
“Even though he’s a liberal gun-control douchebag I still feel bad for the guy.”
I don’t. He broke every rule of firearms safety in the book AND a whole bunch of movie set safety rules. He fired the Union Armorer and replaced that person with an inexperienced 24 year old girl.
Baldwin is the producer of this dreck and as such he bears personal responsibility for everything that happens on the set.
Want to feel bad for someone? Feel bad for the dead woman and her family.
I hope Baldwin ends up bankrupt and in prison.

Over the years, Alec Baldwin chose to use his fame and soapbox to deride the 2A, responsible gun ownership and conservatives in general. Instead of learning about responsible gun ownership, hothead Alec Baldwin pointed a weapon directly at another human being and pulled the trigger. Alec Baldwin has killed a woman and wounded a man. Baldwin's own doing, by is own hand. He owns his irresponsible actions.
It was a real gun (a Colt) with a real bullet in it.
It didn’t “malfunction.” He pulled the trigger and it worked as designed.
A simple inspection of the weapon would have revealed an actual bullet was loaded. Five second inspection.
Baldwin hired the incompetent people on his set on the cheap as he was a producer on the project.
Negligent homicide.
His only home is that for political reasons (future film productions) the DA won’t indict him. Likely they’ll offer to pay off her family quickly.
Maybe I don’t understand filmmaking but why should live ammunition be on the set at all?
You are 98% correct. Other than a newer semi autos that need a little help to run well with blanks without a blank firing attachment.
A couple of examples I ran across was in Big Jake, where his son has a “new Bergman 1912” automatic. That was a Walther P-38 with some cosmetic changes. And in Planet of the Apes, the gorillas were carrying M-1 carbines with replacement stocks.
The list goes on.
So since most movie guns are real, it is a red line rule of no live ammo on the set. None... zero...never.
Also a little trivia. here’s how real the guns are. The guns are usually stored at a prop shop in California. If you want a couple of cases of Winchesters and Peacemakers for your movie, the guns aren’t just loaded up and sent to the out of state set. They are being transferred from one company to another (the production company).
Ergo, the guns are shipped to an FFL in the state in question, entered into his inventory and then legally transferred to the production company. The process goes reverse after the film is completed.
Also, the people playing with the after hours. Basically, the movie production company became an illegal gun store for out of state dopers from California with no background checks.
If you or I did the same exact acts, BATF would be at your door at 4am.
“This will result in either a major revamp of procedures for guns on sets or possibly kill the use of any real guns on sets.”
Not needed. What IS needed is enforcement of the rules which were fully adequate. The best rules in the world are useless if breaching them is not enforced. The armorer should go to prison. That’s the best way to ensure all future armorers take the job seriously.
Your comment has been reviewed and approved for general use on this subject.
Yep, I agree.
The prosecutor needs to ask only a single question:
“Who pulled the trigger, Mr. Baldwin?”

Killing two birds with one stone comes to mind. For some odd reason I think there is a jilted woman involved. The armorer does not seem stable IMHO. Check out her video here: https://citizenfreepress.com/breaking/photos-this-is-the-woman-alec-baldwin-put-in-charge-of-firearms-for-his-low-budget-film/
Very very dangerous gal IMHO. Was Alec involved with both her and the victim?
bttt
Where did you read that Hannah Gutierrez was a replacement? My understanding was that workers on the camera crew were the ones replaced.
That sounds like how the bullets got there, that the guns were used for target practice. There is no legitimate reason that live rounds should have been stored on set. That alone should be enough for manslaughter charges against the armorer and others.
It sounds like there were previous discharges of bullets and apparently nothing was done to investigate or correct the problem. Seems like a major oversight by the producer (Baldwin), the director, and the armorer.
I do not know much about guns, unlike other here. However, I thought mid 19th century small arms did not have the velocity of current weapons. It seems like it would be hard to kill one person and wound another with the same bullet. I am suspicious of that story. Was more than one live round fired or was it fired at close range? Also, since you should not be aiming at anyone, particularly not an actor, how do you aim the gun so that you hit two people!?
Supposedly, Baldwin’s net worth is $60 million. I doubt he will be bankrupted by lawsuits, since only one person was killed.
I do not mean to be prejudiced about age and gender, but WTF with the armorer. Maybe she was hired due to all of being cheap, connections, and favors.
Was Baldwin given a drug and alcohol tests? If not, why not?
Right after his testicles get delivered to the photog's husband, in a neat little box.
Oh - that’s 2 strikes for Baldwin - he pulled the trigger and he, as Producer, would be the big boss, and the one who made the on-set production decisions. Like bringing in the very unqualified crew.
There will have to be some responsibility/culpability applied here. A woman is dead and it appears there were many unsafe conditions on the set.
JM2C.
Aren’t those airsoft guns?
And there we go... This is the reply I was hoping for.
Short tik-tok video of the armorer. Bad language. you don’t want her anywhere near a movie set:
