Good news for people who like eating while in motion: Amtrak may be bringing back the beloved dining car. That's right, eating your Whataburger honey butter biscuit behind the wheel is no longer the most glamorous way to eat-on-the-go.
Back in the fall of 2019, Amtrak announced that it was getting rid of the classic dining car —the ones with china and flatware on a white tablecloth—in favor of pre-packaged options. This was before the pandemic, so they couldn't use health and safety as an excuse to stave off the inevitable firestorm of criticism. While Amtrak executives may have been looking to cut costs, people really love the romantic notion of dining off of fine china while rolling through the night. Cutting the full dining car experience transformed train travel from something elegant and nostalgic to utilitarian.

The unvaxxed will have to wear yellow stars and sit in the last couple of cars.
Those cars will be decoupled along the way....nothing to see here...nothing to see here...
Dining car serving fast food slop on a cho-cho. Boy, we’ve come a long way!
Pretty sure the last car will be designated the locked memory unit for Puddin' Head Joe.
Yep.
Went on a train 65 years ago as a kid. The only thing I really remember is that the train was very big and the finger bowls in the dining car.
Oh, subsidized. Like the solar industry, like every large bank, like Lockheed, like the Taliban, like NATO, like the airlines, like big tech, like big pharma, like the Wuhan lab?
But god forbid they spend a few shekels to do something crazy like have a decent dining experience on a train.
This brings to memory the movie: “SILVER STREAK” for some
strange reason. What a ride! Crossing the nation by various methods. Then, back at the station in Chicago ...... January 6 is pale by comparison. People running for their lives (all acting, by the way).
Never experienced fine dining on a train. Do persons flip for the certain side of a table? Traveling backwards while eating might make for tumbling tummies.
"If you don't behave like gentlemen, you can't stay here and you can't come again. Now put up your guns and take a drink with Fred Harvey."
I used to take Amtrak in the 1980s occasionally. I liked the Comfort as I was tall. Slowwwww travel compared to planes then though.
The reason why leftist and their Communist bosses love trains, is because trains follow the tracks, no varying, no side trips and they know where everyone is going, and what their destination and arrival time is. Everyone is packed into these tubes on wheels, all going to the same place. No independence, no side trips, no detours, etc...
*Pennepicure pie (a rich raisin custard pie topped with meringue)
WIKI......Elegance is one of the main words used to describe the concept of dining on a train. Use of fresh ingredients was encouraged whenever possible. Some of the dishes prepared by chefs were: Braised Duck Cumberland, Hungarian Beef Goulash with Potato Dumplings, Lobster Americaine, Mountain Trout Au Bleu, Curry of Lamb Madras, Scalloped Brussels Sprouts, Pecan and Orange Sticks and *Pennepicure Pie to name a few items.[2]
The Christmas menu for the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway in 1882 listed the following items: Hunter’s Soup, Salmon with Hollandaise Sauce, Boned Pheasant in Aspic Jelly, Chicken Salad, Salmis Prairie Chicken, Oyster Patties, Rice Croquette, Roast Beef, English Ribs of Beef, Turkey with Cranberry Sauce, Stuffed Suckling Pig with Applesauce, Antelope Steak with Currant Jelly, potatoes, green peas, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, Mince Pie, Plum Pudding, Cake, Ice Cream, Fruits and coffee.[2]

Dinner in the Diner During the Golden Age of Rail Travel
beautiful
I think it would be much better to do it the Japanese way. At every station they have privately owned businesses that specialize in “train food.”
I wish they were going slower so you can enjoy the scenery.
