What is really amazing about this is that Marine, who is right handed, took out the thug using his left hand, never dropping the milk jug he was carrying. And in a wink of the eye too! Bravo.

You have to watch out for those retired Marines. I was walking to dinner in Midtown Manhattan with a retired Marine friend back in the late 90’s. Someone tried to pick his pocket. My buddy caught the pickpocket’s hand in his pocket, grabbed his arm, took him to the ground and broke the guy’s arm. This was when NYC was pretty darn safe. Police saw the entire thing. The pickpocket was arrested. My friend was not hassled by the police. In fact, the police said that my friend didn’t have to appear for any future proceedings because there were two police witnesses.

Interesting use of “alleged”.
If the perp had a gun, and it was visible in a convenience store, _any_ activity involving it (short of simple holstered carry) constitutes enough evidence of ill intent that “alleged” really doesn’t apply.
The only application of “alleged” here is that the perp’s alleged intent to rob the store, as opposed to rape/murder.

“Alleged” is a courtroom term ... most often, it doesn’t make common sense in real life. (Along the same lines as referring to the armed robber as “Mr. Smith” rather than the real life term, “effin’ punk b@stard”.
