I would not call these teachers. From the article,
“Two former college athletes who had recently taken physical education jobs at South Florida schools were fired after their arrests in connection with a shooting that wounded a man at a Vero Beach apartment, authorities said.”
“Physical education jobs” Very likely has nothing to do with the actual teaching of any student.
My mistake the article later clarifies they were PE teachers. Probably hoping they would get some of the students recognized by college football scouts. Moore Haven and Clewiston and Pahookee are communities around Lake Okeechobee that have high schools with a reputation for producing scout worthy football players. Vero may have thought that reputation would transfer to their high school players.
