Seventy-two percent of US tech workers are considering quitting their jobs in the next 12 months, according to a new survey from learning software firm TalentLMS and Workable.
About four in ten of the 1,200 IT, software, and tech workers surveyed said that limited career progression made them think about leaving their jobs.
Other common reasons for considering leaving included non-flexible working hours, feeling underappreciated, and toxic work environments.
Just under a third of respondents said a lack of remote working options was making them consider quitting, too.
Eighty-five percent of respondents said that they felt their company focused more on attracting new employees than investing in existing staff. They said that more training and learning would make them feel more motivated, and that so would greater flexibility in where and when they worked.
Another 58% of all respondents said they were suffering from job burnout, though only 30% of those thinking of quitting cited burnout as a top reason why.
The US is suffering from a huge labor shortage, catalyzed by the pandemic, and people are reassessing what they want from work.
This has fueled the "Great Resignation," with record numbers of people quitting their jobs. Some are returning to education, while others are swapping industries or going freelance.

I could see a lot of them going to contract work.
Probably spoiled millenials that aren’t getting enough play time or free soda at work & dissatisfied with 8 weeks vacation and 30hr work weeks.
They don’t know what a hard working job is like
That doesn’t mean much. That could be true at any given time.
Count me as one.
1. Too many foreigners. The work environment is too foreign. Their english sucks, their food stinks, their personal habits are disgusting, they have no loyalty to this country, they talk trash about the US despite coming from turd world countries, etc.
2. Management hires foreigners over Americans. There is no attempt to comply with H1B law for example.
3. Vacation and US and Christian holidays are not honored.
4. Benefits and recognition have been dropping steadily. I’m talking about the concept of tech ladder.
5. Privacy has been all but destroyed with the advent of microsoft Teams and Skype. Fellow employees don’t respect the boundaries of private time. When work is over, don’t contact me even if you see me online.
There are more problems. These are just a few.
Tech worker wages have been suppressed for years by importing cheap foreign labor. Not exactly motivating.
Yes! That means more work/opportunities for me! :-)
I hope 99% of them (at least) are ‘red-dots’...

A lot of them are probably contractors now, I was for the last 15-20 years if my IT career that made it bearable for most of those years
Actually it’s probably older IT workers like I was, 60 years old working with 25 year olds who knew everything and managed by 30 year olds who knew even more
Or maybe some of them are tired of being treated like crap and paid low wages and want to find better, I know, try being on the NMCI help desk for a year, we lost most of our people that year who found better and were understaffed at one point.

Have to agree with you on some of your points
1. Too many foreigners. Many do not believe we are all made in the image of God. Many are bigots who perceive slights where none exist. Just bear down and git to work!
2. Management hires foreigners over Americans. Yup, companies hire folks from India, then are surprised when Americans say FU, when asked to train their illegal replacement.
3. Vacation and US and Christian holidays are not honored. I work for mostly Foreign Corps. That is standard practice.
5. Privacy has been all but destroyed with the advent of microsoft Teams and Skype. Fellow employees don’t respect the boundaries of private time. When work is over, don’t contact me even if you see me online. LOL, mebe 20 years ago, my Boss called me on a Friday evening at about 8 PM. I had enjoyed a few pints with friends and was heading home. I think my answers were muddled and incoherent. Never did get a work call at 8pm on a Friday, ever again.
Health and safety yo yos where I am who do nothing but walk around, go to classes, give PowerPoint shows, and wander around all day are treated like royalty where I am.
Both are 6 figure jobs.

Probably tired people who are tired of watching the money go to the leads who can offshore and H1B the most, tired of watching foreigners only hire foreigners, of doing all the real work plus the cleanup since the non-Americans only write garbage code...
... and now on top of this, having been sent home to work better for 12-18 months, be told to jam back into disease-breeding cubes, get jabbed and masked and nose-swabbed and maybe fired.
While everyone’s been watching truckers and airlines and ports, the tech companies have excelled in COVID-oppression.
