” Their top reasons included working hours, limited career progression, and toxic work environments. “

Gee, I remember all those things in the places where I worked. I stuck it out for 45 years. Silly me, I thought it was “life”.

Not a particularly good plan given the present situation. For example, after the 9/11 attacks the feds fell short on projected revenues. Feds told the states that that Uncle Sam couldnt be their sugar daddy that year. The states had already spent the money they were anticipating. They turned to their vendors and said that projects had to be cancelled. So one of the first things fed, state, and supporting vendors did was fire all the consultants and contractors that they could. Locally at least, a large percentage of IT was out of work almost simultaneously. This competition for the few jobs available created significant downward pressure on wages and working conditions. As the rest of the economy began to move again, employers turned increasingly toward foreign help for IT positions.

The last IT position I had I wasnt even a person. My headhunter found me a position snuck into the state budget as a piece of rented equipment.

That contract ended in 2003(?) And I havent been back in IT since.

I can see something similar happening again soon. Those with other skills are likely best exercising them soon.

I would trade with Mr. Douglas.

Well, if I weren't already married to a nice blonde (Dutch, not Hungarian), I might, too. Two things, need to be near a traditional Mass (not many Catholics in Hooterville), and I would need a Keurig machine that Lisa would not be allowed to touch.

Maybe not, but beats getting an unwanted shot.

Could be a lot of that I suppose.

If theyre tired of working for idiots then its time to get out and be their own idiot if they can because working elsewhere right now isnt going to be any better.

Let me tell you a bit about the job Im leaving on Friday. Its a third level management position and it used to be a good job. Then all the nonsense with the cooties started and we havent been able to get entry level employees so I had to start picking up entry level slack. Then a first tier subordinate manager was injured and put out of work and cant return, I was expected to pick up the slack. A second tier subordinate manager found work was interfering with her personal life, I was expected to pick up the slack. Level four management and his replacement quit and level 5 has me involved in picking up some of that. All the Im on call at all times.

Between entry level through my actual position, level 5 expects be to personally cover 220 hours out of every 168 hour week and that still doesnt cover the rest of the shortages and problems that stem from that.

I get better than 8 weeks vacation a year. Our PTO is earned based on the number of hours one works. Its all theoretical nonsense though because there is a ceiling on how many hours one can bank. I quickly zoomed up to that ceiling and have been losing that benefit time ever since. It doesnt make a difference how much vacation time one gets if they cant take it, cant bank it, and cant sell it back.

That isnt even the worst part. Its not so much the single shifts that wind up being 28 hours or so, its the days where I do 30 some hours over a 40 something hour day that get exhausting.

I dont care what vacation package they offer where Im going and I dont care if they do or dont offer stock or any of the rest. Im done here. When I gave my notice I dropped to 40, I just dont care what happens here next.

I wont make the mistake of offering any employer any loyalty after this.

wow pretty crazy! Yeah you don’t hear really anything negative about tech work places and such, just msm fluff pieces with entry level workers sliding down a slide into the break room or something. Good luck moving forward and hate it about lack of help, its going on everywhere I suppose.

I can attest to this. The hospital I work at in southern NJ is a bloody mess of jabbering mutts from every Third World crap hole as well as Eastern European countries.

Some of the East Europeans are quietly grateful to be here but the rest, especially the Hispanics are mouthy ingrates who are here only to pull money out of this economy and sent it back to their countries.
