I'm scheduled for lumbar spinal fusion surgery (TLIF) in a little over a week. Looking for any input from anyone who has been through this.

Any suggestions, experiences, outcomes from anyone who has had this procedure would be much appreciated.

TIA

Know the feeling. weakness and Numbness in both legs.
Had the surgery back in 2007. recovery time wasn't bad. Watch out for nerve damage. I now walk with a brace on Left leg, because of “Drop foot” related to the nerve damage that required the surgery.
At 85 I'm still active and walking....

Nothing lasts forever. Do you trust your surgeon?

I was once advised never let the doctor who recommended surgery to be the surgeon who operates on you. Since it has never come up for me I don’t know if that’s good advice or not. However, my mother had carpal tunnel surgery done by the doctor who recommended it and he completely botched the operation. Another doctor recommended another operation to undo the damage but Mom decided to live with the pain.

I have a long scar on my lower back where they peled me open. Smaller scar on the hip where they took a chunk of bone out for the fusion.

Darn hip ached for longer than the spine afterwards.

God lead me to this in my late 50’s when I had knee pains, hip joint pains, lower back pain, high blood pressure, high A1C and border line diabetic, and chest pain after eating a good restaurant meal. Now at age 81 free from all above maladies. If I can have the will power to continue this 25 minute daily routine, I expect to feel this good at age 100 barring hit by cancer. I read somewhere regular exercise is cancer preventive as well.

Tell your friend to look up the perfectly legal “Kratom”. Tastes worse than dirt but it works. Order it online. Don’t buy from corner stores and tobacco shops. It is NOT addictive! It is NOT dangerous! The people they will undoubtedly say died took Kratom and something else like Heroine or Fentonal. If you take too much Kratom you will throw up. It is perfectly safe. Measure you dose according to your weight. If you get nausea, cut back a few grams. The only negative I can find is it tastes worse than crap. Mix it in Ice cream or orange juice or whatever floats your boat. Eventually you will get used to it over the pain.

My daughter had it done when she was around 40. All went well, it took about 10 months to heal which was what they expected. She does have some lifting limitations..ie no more than 30 lbs.
She was in a wheel chair prior to surgery, but now she’s on her own two feet. Not in constant pain anymore. It’s not perfect, but a big improvement over the suffering she’d endured.

Follow doctor’s orders exactly.

“Darn hip ached for longer than the spine afterwards.”

Yup. When I woke up they ask me how I felt. The pain down my leg was gone but I told them my ass hurt like hell.

GD suction cup/tube attached to my ass and all that.

My ass still bothers me once in a while.

I’m awfully curious how you cured Degenerative Disc Disease through nutrition. Did you take lots of supplements? I am wondering if your nutrition helps with osteopenia.
