Doctor schedules abortion for baby with Down syndrome before giving parents the diagnosis

Zoey-Lea O’Hehir and her husband Jake are speaking out about the cruel way they found out their daughter Arlee has Down syndrome.

In an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, O’Hehir said she was in the middle of teaching when she received the phone call delivering the diagnosis. She was told that her daughter had Down syndrome and that the doctor had already scheduled an abortion. “It was very scary and just the mention of termination struck a nerve,” she said. “Before I could say anything, before I could process anything or even breathe [he’d scheduled the termination].”

After trying for three years, the O’Hehirs were thrilled to be pregnant. But after the diagnosis, the care they received plummeted. After they refused the abortion, they were told that there were only three outcomes to expect: lifelong dialysis treatment, stillbirth, or neonatal death. Yet Arlee, now seven months old, is thriving and meeting all developmental milestones.

“She’s amazing and has brought so much happiness to our life,” her mother said. “She may have a little bit of low muscle tone, which comes with Down syndrome, but other than that she’s honestly just like a normal baby.”

Sadly, O’Hehir’s experience is far from rare. Down Syndrome Australia (DSA) said families were routinely pressured to have an abortion, or are not given enough support. “To hear families being repeatedly asked about termination and not supported in their decision [to proceed with the pregnancy] is a case of neglect,” DSA chief executive Ellen Skladzien said. “We heard about doctors who told families that their child would have a lifetime of suffering or that they would never achieve anything.”

Similar data has been found in the United States, where only 11% of women reported having a positive diagnosis experience. One survey found that 13% of doctors admitted to over-emphasizing the negative aspects of Down syndrome in an attempt to pressure parents into abortion. Yet medical advancements have ensured that people with Down syndrome are able to live longer, healthier, more fulfilling lives than ever before. There is no excuse for this kind of ableism and misinformation to be so rampant in the medical field, and Down syndrome families deserve better.

Money is a huge ethical snare.

Everyone gets an opportunity to make the right choice. Many choose poorly.

To be fair, it is a tough decision.

Good/bad... maybe many of the best medical professionals will quit leaving the not so good doctors and nurses remaining.

Certainly makes you wonder if the quality of our healthcare will suffer. Especially, when some doctors and nurses have personal vendettas against the unvaccinated. I'd probably want to avoid a cancer surgery if I thought that the doctor might not do his very best job while I was under his care. It is scary to think that this might be a possibility.

I lost all respect for cancer docs when my dad dumped over $200k from his personal money (not insurance) into a lying piece of filth doctor who kept telling him lies 6 months before he died that he could beat it when it was obvious he was toast then … 18 years ago.

This same sack of crap stood over him two days before he died and said “yep he’ll die today or tomorrow”.

Folks need to realize they are mostly on their own with their health.

Exercise, eat right, and get second, third, and forth opinions. They are not as moral as you think. Covid has proven that.

Don’t know if she ever did. The diagnosis (or do they call it prognosis) was based on law of probabilities. I believe it was the amniocentesis lab work? Among her other career skills, she is a nurse today and has 4 healthy children. Now grown.

“Kinda bold of that doctor isn’t it?”

There’s been a lot of that going around lately — doctors making decisions about the lives of others without their consent.

“Certainly makes you wonder if the quality of our healthcare will suffer.”

I noticed you’re using the future tense. The quality of our healthcare took a dive a long time ago, most noticeability starting in the spring of 2020.

Another 'useless eater', just like the sickest of nursing home residents. "Some people just needs killin'!"

The good news is, that at 81 and 65, respectively, both Faustchi and Gates will soon be meeting their Creator and will have a lot of 'splainin' to do before they are cast out to a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth. Your Microsoft billions will not mean a damned, and I do mean DAMNED thing, Willie G.!

[ We cannot allow defectives to be born if we want to create the master race. ]

Meanwhile the same people want us to fill our country with people who have such low IQs that they are functionally retarded.

So we cannot have White Retards with low IQs who are only going to give you hug if you meet them on the street (Downs Syndrome) .....

But we can have a bunch of “Diversity Retards” who WILL STAB YOU FOR YOUR WALLET IF THEY MEET YOU ON THE STREET (We Wuz Kangs Syndrome) .....

And yet people still call the “Great White Replacement” a “conspiracy theory”!!!!

I remember some good doctors growing up.

They’d spend more than 15 minutes if necessary, they listened, they knew how to promote health instead of being the 3rd largest cause of death in the country.

And the not only didn’t slaughter babies, but they wouldn’t promote using the baby tissue immorally.

It could be a false diagnosis. They said my baby had a 70 % chance of Down syndrome but he was born without any problems at all. I wouldn’t even talk to them about aborting. That was just from a blood test. I refused more tests as they are dangerous to the baby.

My youngest was a problem pregnancy due to RH factor. Anyways I remember the doctor asking the day of amniocenteses what my plans are if she is disabled. Confused, I asked my plans? He asked if I planned on terminating the pregnancy. My answer was “God no” to which he replied. Good, I was going to tell you to find another doctor. Today my daughter works in pediatric oncology. God bless Dr Pircon!

Unfortunately, their go-to solution is to prescribe medications and call it done after that versus getting to the root cause problem and healing the problem if possible. At least that has been my experience.

Medicines are great but helping the body heal itself is always much better. Medicines have side affects.

Proving.... that medicine and “the science” is not always right.

Well, the science is correct, just our understanding of it is a guess a lot of the time. Doctors and scientists think themselves gods. Well at least Fauci want us to think that he is god.

Good point. So get things taken care of now because quality will suffer even more in the future.
