Biden reveals 'game-changing' plan to get 'toasters and sneakers' back on the shelves by opening ports 24/7 and having truckers drive at night after Psaki said WH couldn't guarantee Christmas gifts would arrive on time

President Joe Biden touted new commitments from businesses and ports Wednesday as his administration rushes to ease supply chain backlogs in time to ease the burden on Christmas shoppers and avoid being cast as a Scrooge.

'With the holidays coming up, you might be wondering if gifts you plan to buy will arrive on time?' Biden said, acknowledging the crush of commercial and online orders at risk of disruption as the holiday season approaches.

'I know you’re hearing a lot about something called supply chains and how hard it is to get a range of things from a toaster to sneakers to bicycles to bedroom furniture.'(snip)

Biden reached a deal on Wednesday with unions and business leaders from Walmart, FedEx, UPS and others to expand operations at one of the country's largest shipping ports in a bid to ease supply chain bottlenecks that are driving up consumer prices and emptying store shelves.

Once implemented the proposed changes could increase output by more than 3,500 shipping containers per week, White House officials said.

'Traditionally, our ports have only been open during the week, Monday through Friday. And they're generally closed down at nights and on weekends. By staying open seven days a week through the night and on the weekends, the port of Los Angeles will open over 60 extra hours a week,' he continued. 'That will almost double the number of hours that the port is open for business than earlier this year.'

The companies he mentioned aren’t can haulers, they’re freight companies. Huge difference!!!

California’s AB5 is the real issue, killing off the owner operators that haul the cans out of the ports and giving work to the Teamsters Union that they can’t do. (Nothing slower than a Teamsters truck.)

I hate to ask the obvious, but, if there are a shortage of truckers during the day, how does that translate to more drivers during the night?

Toasters and sneakers? What about bunny slippers, Joe? I’ve promised all my girlfriends bunny slippers this year. And if I disappoint even one of them there will be hell to pay.

Senile Joe never heard of the Supply Chain until his caregivers told him about it. Driving at night has ZERO to do with Port Congestion.

We are screwed.

It was a stupid statement. Most major logistics (i.e. Supply Chain organizations) operate 27/7 anyway. Some smaller venues may not be open at night or on weekends but that is because they don’t have the volume.

Truck drivers can be moved between shifts with a simple pay differential. The dock/door space, however, becomes a problem very quickly.

yeah people in Logistics laughed themselves silly at this line

"3,500 shipping containers per week"

Great, we getting approximately an extra 1/3 of a ship a week unloaded!

Once implemented the proposed changes could increase output by more than 3,500 shipping containers per week,

WTF? An average container ship carries 10,000 containers, and the largest carry 20,000+

So Biden gets involved to increase capacity by 30% of ONE ship, while 70 more are in queue floating outside in the harbor?

“Sure....President Brandon “changed the game” alright. We went from mean tweets and low gas prices to incoherence and massive inflation.”

I was at the local convenience store tonight getting a drink. The woman ahead of me in line was bitching and complaining about the price of gas, $3.19/gallon and other things.
When she paid and turned to leave I mentioned the price of gas, she was off and running with it again. I stopped her and told her “you voted for it, don’t complain.”
She was wearing a Biden/Harris T shirt.

"I would have thought all ports are open 24/7 for receiving and shipping."

Joe's brain's not open 24/7.

Saw a video this morning on TV. A guy at the Port of Tacoma... Hundreds of trucks and drivers waiting for loads. The guy taking the video said he had been watching for four hours, and not one crane had moved an inch.
