I was all but certain it was democRATS they were talking about...

A common mistake, I'm sure.

It’s an easy mistake. They are so similar that the confusion is forgivable.

In Texas, there is a similar problem with wild boars BUT the difference is that Texans have long guns and will use them. Thus it is a real nuisance but not to the Argentine level here!

Sounds like a lucrative business opportunity for some enterprising Argentine. Catch and release out in the jungle.

Ya gotta wonder who is going to volunteer for the job of castrating a rat the size of a St. Bernard.

New career path, probably with money courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer.
See how rough this winter is, we might all be volunteering for the job in the Spring.

The capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) is a giant cavy rodent native to South America. It is the largest living rodent and a member of the genus Hydrochoerus.

Another idea: Castrate males.

Just the rodents or are we supposed to apply that more generally?

Do they have a cask of medicinal spirits around their necks?

If they do, perhaps they are like four legged ambulances.

Trying to provide comfort to those who are aling, I mean ailing.

This is silly. There are very large animals in the rodent family. They are not new. They are not nuked rats. They have always existed and Alligator types as well as large cats love to snap them up. We have some as well in the US. A beaver is a rodent and they get to be 70 lbs. In the Louisiana swamps we have Nutria. They are over 20 pounds. And of course there are porcupines that are over 30 lbs. Then there are capybara which can be as large as 150 pounds. These are good eaten for Jaguars and Caiman.
