87 runners faced extreme weather, including 12-18 inches of snow and almost white-out conditions
Trail runners participating in an ultramarathon Saturday morning were rescued from the mountains in Davis County, Utah, after a snowstorm hit the area.
At about 9:30 a.m., the Davis County Sheriff's Office was notified about an "emergency situation" involving 87 runners. They faced extreme weather, including 12-18 inches of snow and almost white-out conditions, according to a news release.
The race was suspended, and the sheriff's office's search and rescue team responded on foot, with ATVs and snowmobiles to help the runners get down the mountain safely.
The sheriff's office said a few runners were treated for hypothermia at the scene and released, with one also sustaining a minor injury from a fall.
Officials later thanked those who stayed with the injured runner, who also had hypothermia, until search and rescue arrived.

Its an ultra-ultra marathon
Run a little faster.
More proof of global warming.
21 runners died in similar conditions in China during an ultra marathon back in May.

C’mon man! If those competitors really want a test, why not just make it a survival race without all that assistance?
We were told by experts that snowfalls would be a thing of the past.
Hey, it isn’t named an ultramarathon for nothing.
Hey, buddy, my legs are getting a bit chilly and it’s looking a bit gray and blustery ahead. Pass me another Gatorade.
I totally agree.
People who engage in extreme sports should have to pay a deposit. They put the rescuers in the same danger they put themselves in.
Pussies! When I was growing up, I walked 5 miles to school, IN THE SNOW, and it was uphill in both directions!
Pols are the same way, for at least 2-6yrs.

The 230-year-old publication — which claims to make predictions with 80% accuracy — just released its annual forecast for winter 2021-2022. It's going to be so cold across the country, they have actually taken to calling it the "season of shivers."
I remember the brutal winter of 1976-1977 being blamed on THE COMING ICE AGE and offered as proof the world was getting colder.
Filling up the reservoirs ain’t gonna happen until the next El Nino cycle, if ever.
And then the idiots of California will squawk and squabble until they get to suck them dry...again.
Lake Mead and Lake Powell were always full when I was a kid in Arizona 6 decades ago. But that was when California had 15 million people, Arizona had maybe 1.5 million, Utah at about 1 million and Nevada basically had like a couple hundred thousand. No way the upper Colorado has the capacity to sustain the current populations AND high water consumption Ag in the San Joaquin, while draining the Klamath/Sacramento rivers to keep the snail darters alive.
We had full reservoirs here in California in 2019 after the massive snow year that winter. They drained them to half full just on the EPA demands alone. Now they bitch about a drought. The current weather looks just like it did years ago. In fact, we’ve had nothing like the drought of ‘76-’77 since then. On the contrary, the last three El Nino events have been spectacular, and the “droughts” were merely somewhat below average.
Those white stripes above the water in the lakes behind the dams are gonna stay there. First saw them in the late ‘70s, don’t think they’re going away.
LOL! That’s what my Gramps would always tell me. :)
A lot of nurses are losing their jobs because they don’t want the vaccine. Including a great nurse who sees me every day.
I think this is absurd and I will miss her.
Conditions can change fast in the mountains, but even I know that there is snowy weather blowing into the Rockies over the next days, and I live nearly 2,000 miles away.
“We had full reservoirs here in California in 2019”
I could give a rip what happens in CA. I am talking about where the real people live, east of that hole of a third world country-the land of fruits and nuts.
What kind of moron schedules an ultra-marathon in the Utah mountains later than Labor Day? Even Labor Day can get scetchy for weather in the Central Rockies.
