Many countries probably don’t like China for releasing the Coronavirus.

Sabotage would be par for the course there.

Did not read the article. There have been multiple posts on this issue. Basically they relied a lot on Australian coal, then boycotted Australia. They did this to themselves.

Energy being diverted to military uses?

I gather this then would not be the “best” time for the 3 Gorges Damn (sic) to collapse.

Sounds like something Biden would do.

Ah, I thought of it...manufacturing plants making weapons, equipment. Hmm... Could be, it's about time they started moving toward their military objectives.

Whats going to happen when the world realizes that China was only the incompetent contractor and the virus really belonged to Fauci and that you and I funded it?

My wife, who has communications channels into China, tells me that the blackouts are deliberate power shutdowns in an effort to conserve their coal. This is a direct result of them getting all pissy with Australia, from whence comes most of their coal.

The Aussies pissed them off so they cut off their noses to spite their faces by boycotting Aussie coal which was a significant percentage of their domestic power.

Since then Aussies have locked down and so forget about Aussie coal even if they lifted their boycott.

So to sum things up for you... China released a bioweapon... the Aussies pointed it out... China got in a huff and shot themselves in the energy foot saying no Aussie coal, and the Aussie domestic reaction to the bioweapon has precluded the Chinese asking... coal please... sorry about the bioweapon.

The crappy part is it is going to destabilize all energy markets, f up the supply chain more... and lead to lots of nasty things coming out of an angry China.

The Chinese will just go take it eventually.

As I said: “and lead to lots of nasty things coming out of an angry China.”

Their problem is the Chinese have gotten used to a better life and they are not going to like this one bit. There are a hell of a lot more Chinese than CCP. Unfortunately managing internal dissent is often accomplished by externalizing the hate.

< sarc on>
There is a potential upside though. The CCP may offer Aussies more freedom than their current government.
< sark off>

My hunch: this energy shortage explains the recent banning of crypto currency in China.

The way crypto currency works is that the anonymized data in its "block chains" are distributed and managed by companies who do crypto mining.  From Google:

In fact, the amount of energy used by these high-powered computers is enormous -- and costly.  Elon Musk recently complained about crypto's wasteful use of electricity.

But what if you manage the Three Gorges Dam (the world's largest hydro-electric generator) at a time when there's more electricity available than the economy needs?  Well, crypto mining becomes a way to earn crypto coins.  And indeed, my reading suggests a high percentage of crypto mining has been done in China because they have such tremendous hydro-electric power — and the Yangtze River isn't drying up any day soon.

But if the coal supply is dropping, what do you do?  You outlaw crypto-mining to divert electricity away from speculative crypto-mining to feed businesses and consumers who are starving for power.
