A football player for the University of Utah Utes has died following a house party shooting early Sunday morning, according to authorities.

Salt Lake City police said in a statement that Aaron Lowe, 21, was killed when shots were fired at around 12:20 a.m. local time at the home in the Sugar House neighborhood. An unidentified female was also shot and is in critical condition.

Police said they first received a noise complaint around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday regarding the house party on the 2200 block of South Broadmoor Street. Two hours later, another call came in about a fight involving a weapon at the same address.

As officers approached the scene, a caller reported hearing gunshots from the area in question. Lowe and the other victim were quickly located upon their arrival.

The sophomore cornerback was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was taken to a local hospital.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing. "These investigations are complex," Brown said in his statement. "Our detectives have been hard at work trying to identify the suspect or suspects in this case."

Snitches git stiches.

Some of these Universities should opt-out of Division-whatever NCAA football.

So what, your school doesn't have a football team. BFD. Who cares? The school can get a reputation for academics. Ditto for the other big sports that waste everyone's time. |

I was on a student-funded, student-run ski team at my college. It had been that way for many decades. The school might have thrown us a couple hundred for gas money during the season. So, we had sports, but no hype. No one was recruited to help our student-run team. Why isn't this a better model for colleges.

Particularly PUBLIC colleges, where taxpayers pay for all this football nonsense.

Death comes sweeping through the hallway
Like a lady’s dress

Death comes driving down the highway
In its Sunday best.

I spent many good years in situations where I was the only white person at the table, in the room, in the building, on the block, and quite possibly in the entire neighborhood.

Felt safe when things were safe. And that was 99% of the time.

Have you lost your mind? Have our universities known for the quality of the education they provide rather that the quality of their football teams? Sir, I want to see your citizenship papers immediately.

When prompted to state a safe place for themselves, “in a black neighborhood” doesn’t rank in anyone’s top ten answers.

Not the first answer that comes to most people minds first.

The NCAA, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, who are against Indian named and themed mascots, are TOTALLY Professional.

Nothing amateur about them.

Re: "Particularly PUBLIC colleges, where taxpayers pay for all this football nonsense."

Actually, Division I football makes a huge profit at all the major football schools.

College football subsidizes every other college sport, except for men's basketball, which makes a profit, too, at most major public universities.

Me, too. Whites were a minority in my HS class. I don’t remember any issues. But that was in the early 60’s, before we were supposed to hate each other.

There are 4 divisions in NCAA football:

Division 1 FBS
Division 1 FCS
Division 2
Division 3

Division 1 FBS is a huge cash cow for universities. Season tickets, TV revenue, sports paraphernalia, etc. generate millions in revenue every year for the schools. There is no way they will walk away from that money.

I don’t know how much money D1 FCS or D2 spend on their programs or how much revenue they make for their schools but do know that D3 schools do not offer athletic scholarships.

He was shot in a very nice neighborhood in slc .

South SLC or West of Downtown are the place to be shot or robbed .
