A school bus driver was fatally stabbed in front of students after picking them up from a Washington state elementary school Friday afternoon, authorities said.
The alleged killer, who is now in custody, got on the bus near Longfellow Elementary in the city of Pasco around 3 p.m. and launched the knife attack as multiple children watched in horror, according to police. The victim lost control of the vehicle and crashed it near the school building, police said.
The unidentified driver was pronounced dead a hospital. No children were physically injured in the attack or crash.
The suspect’s name has not been released, but police said he was still at the scene when they arrived and was taken into custody without further incident.
More information is expected to be released Monday, said Pasco Police Capt. Bill Parramore.
“Pasco police detectives will be processing the crime scene throughout the night,” he told reporters in a prepared statement. “The Pasco Police Department will work in close partnership with the Pasco School District through this investigation.”
Pasco School District Superintendent Michelle Whitney said counselors would be available over the weekend and next week to meet with students who were on the bus and any staff affected by the incident.

What? Like a coordinated campaign of senseless crimes, committed by “nobody” suspects from the fringes of Mental Health Land, all to distract us from a real whopper of a crime? Sort of like shooting the mayor so we don’t see the Pearl Harbor attackers coming?
Nah! I don’t buy it. Unless they have a drug that triggers sudden homicidal activity in otherwise peaceful people (they might!) this sounds like too big a conspiracy to keep secret.
I think bad practices by parents too stupid to raise children explains most of our senseless crimes. I drive a school bus and one of my “special needs” kids is fascinated by serial killers and major diseases. How long before that ”lone wolf” explodes?

Your most likely correct. I live in the area and most of the fatal car crashes and murders here are caused by that demographic.
Historically, Pasco was was considered the lesser of the Tri Cities due to the black population. Not so much anymore.
Both assailant and victim were white men, that’s all we know now. No motive released yet, but the stabbing occurred within three blocks of where the driver formerly lived (knew attacker?).
