A new COVID variant that infected vaccinated residents and staff at a Kentucky nursing home has been detected in 47 U.S. states, according to data.
The R.1 variant spread through 45 residents and staff at the nursing home after an unvaccinated staff member triggered the infections in March, the Kentucky Department of Public Health revealed.
Due to its mutation, the variant, first detected in Japan, was able to bypass the antibody protection present in the fully vaccinated.
According to Outbreak.info, a website that collects data on COVID variants, as of September 21, R.1 has now infected more than 10,567 people around the world and has been detected in 47 states.
Maryland was found to have the highest number of cases, with 399 cases being detected since it was first found in the country.
In total, 2,259 Americans have been found with the R.1 strain which was first detected in the country on March 15, 2020. The latest case to be detected in the U.S. was on August 6 and was found in 0.5 percent of cases.
Outbreak.info also reported the strain has been found in at least 31 countries worldwide, including China, India and many nations in western Europe.
Despite the low number of infections, former Harvard Medical School professor William A. Haseltine said the new mutations found in the R.1 variant could help it spread more easily.
Writing in Forbes, Haseltine said the five variations found in R.1 can lead to "increased resistance to antibodies."

Whatever. If they had not lied so much I might listen to a few things they have to say.
We rolled out massive vaccinations, into the teeth of a pandemic, with a vaccine that applied very narrow pressure, and we are surprised a notorious mutator such as a coronavirus, mutated around that pressure?
We really are becoming idiocracy. Soon I bet we hear the vaccine has electrolytes…..and is made by Brawndo.
The World Health Organization lists three categories of COVID variants: variants of interest, variants of concern and variants of high consequence. The delta variant, which is far and away the main variant in the United States, is a variant of concern.
The R.1 variant is not on the WHO list of concern or interest.
ROTFLMAO
The Delta Variant originated in India. This new variant, the R 1, originated in Japan. Both are too close to China. Hmmmm!
Dawn of the Dead
Just setting the tone for all the unvaxxed ruining the world for the vaxxed.
I think it will be over Nov 30 2024 at the latest.
and do you suppose the RNC/GOP is preparing for future elections?
AND as usual naturally recovered are ignored.
A few assorted comments above:
1) What causes variants, then? Variants are statistical. This particular virus is called “unstable”. As opposed to stable. An unstable virus replicates imprecisely. A stable virus, like smallpox, replicates very precisely. After some thousands of replications, the unstable virus will have a variation or mutation because of an imprecise replication.
2) Do vaccines cause mutations? Yes, but so what. The replication is unstable in both vaxed and unvaxed. The bullshit that unvaxed people are causing mutations is true, but only half true. The vaxed cause them and unvaxed cause them. Anywhere you have replication you get mutation, eventually, and there is replication anywhere there is infection. Both vaxed and unvaxed get infected. Both have replication of virus particles. So both make mutations.
3) Can you test to see if you have the Delta variant? Yes, but you won’t. Someone explained above. Genomic sequencing is done on samples, not every case. It’s a separate operation from PCR tests (and heads up, PCR tests are replaced nationwide 1 January and in some states have already been replaced). So you *can* test your own infection for Delta but you won’t do it because it’s not done.
4) This R.1 mutation / variant has not been tagged by CDC as of interest or concern, but they have good reason. Its numbers are not there, yet. Heads up on this. There is no law of the universe that says these viruses have to “compete”. Delta may infect someone and invade some number of cells. That number may be smallish because they are vaxed or have some natural immunity. But so what. This R.1 variant is supposed to penetrate the antibody defense that is holding Delta at bay. It doesn’t care that Delta infected some cells, but could not get through to others. It will get through to those others. So . . . yes, you can have both variants at once. For a while. This scenario is going to kill you.
Nope it is the leaky vaccine variant.
The vaccines don’t work and they never did! They weren’t intended to “work”. They were intended to get the gene therapy into as many humans as possible. Virus haven’t mutated “up” before, why now?
Because it’s an artificial virus designed to do that. Before, we had natural viruses. This one is not natural.
Good God then we will have the R2-D2
Which test was used to determine which variant it was? Just curious....
Tell me again how this is not the result of bioweapons research.
Booster capsules implanted under the skin.
Proven by the minuscule numbers of Covid in China. Ethnospecific bio weapon.
If R2 combines with D2...
