Sticking to low-fat dairy may not be the only heart healthy option, study shows (highest dairy fat levels had lowest heart risk)
Medical XPress / George Institute for Global Health / PLoS Medicine ^ | Sept. 22, 2021 | Dr. Kathy Trieu Et al.

New research amongst the world's biggest consumers of dairy foods has shown that those with higher intakes of dairy fat—measured by fatty acids in the blood—had a lower risk of cardiovascular disease compared to those with low intakes. Higher intakes of dairy fat were not associated with an increased risk of death.

"Instead, we measured blood levels of certain fatty acids, or fat 'building blocks' that are found in dairy foods, which gives a more objective measure of dairy fat intake that doesn't rely on memory or the quality of food databases," he added.

"We found those with the highest levels actually had the lowest risk of CVD. These relationships are highly interesting, but we need further studies to better understand the full health impact of dairy fats and dairy foods."

An international collaboration assessed dairy fat consumption in 4150 Swedish 60-year-olds by measuring blood levels of a particular fatty acid that is mainly found in dairy foods and therefore can be used to reflect intake of dairy fat.

They were then followed up for an average of 16 years to see how many had heart attacks, strokes and other serious circulatory events, and how many died from any cause during this time.

After statistically adjusting for other known CVD risk factors, the CVD risk was lowest for those with high levels of the fatty acid (reflecting high intake of dairy fats). Those with the highest levels had no increased risk of death from all causes.

"While some dietary guidelines continue to suggest consumers choose low-fat dairy products, others have moved away from that advice, instead suggesting dairy can be part of a healthy diet with an emphasis on selecting certain dairy foods—for example, yoghurt rather than butter—or avoiding sweetened dairy products that are loaded with added sugar," he said.

Federal dietary guidelines have been wrong ever since they started issuing them. “Trust the science” they say! “Ignore them”, I respond. High carb, high in sugar diets is what is making people so unhealthy.

The low/no fat craze is pure junk science and harmful. You should eat zero garbage fats like transfats, but the body needs good healthy fats from food like olive oil, quality meats, dairy, avocados, etc.

They definitely are not good for the system, and they play a role in the obesity epidemic. Being fat is mainly a function of eating too much; eating too much is mainly a function of consuming HUGE amounts of carbohydrates, which are bigly in processed foods. At 2000 calories per day, I am starving if it’s mostly carbs; if it’s mostly fats and proteins, I don’t even hit that amount. Hunger always wins.

A diet of unprocessed foods is a lot less likely to induce the chronic inflammation that is a hallmark of the modern diet, and it won’t include anything else that “the science” has totally assured us is harmless. Of course, how and with what the food is processed makes a big impact.

I believe it found that added sugars were a likely factor for issues, so keto ice cream would be best.

Remember, this spoke only to fats in the blood—not sugars.

This is idiotic and 20 years behind the times. Same as saying “Froot Loops” are a part of this nutritious breakfast.” What next? The food pyramid? We need 12 bread and rice servings a day?

I wonder if homogenization vs non-homogenized makes a difference?

Does homogenized milk scar the inside of arteries?

However, when milk is homogenized some of the foreign xanthine oxidase passes intact through the wall of the intestine and into the blood circulation. There it creates havoc by attacking the plasmologen tissue, a vital component of the cells of the heart and artery wall tissue and parts of the heart muscle.
