“Against All Odds,” Phil Collins is soldiering on.
A frail-looking Collins finished his first show with Genesis on the group’s “The Last Domino?” tour in Birmingham Monday night, remaining seated throughout the concert.

Collins, 70, sang all of the evening’s tunes from a chair onstage, though he was not alone in that regard: The group’s guitarist Mike Rutherford also opted to play while perched on a stool at points.

The Birmingham show was the first stop on the band’s farewell tour and their first live performance in 13 years since 2007’s Turn It On Again Tour.
In the latest issue of Mojo, Collins said recently that this will be the final chance to see Genesis in concert. “This English and American tour, that will be enough for me,” he said.
Cover Images Collins has struggled with his health in recent years and has been open about his physical issues heading into this tour.
Asked how he’s been prepping for months of three-hour shows, Collins told the Guardian that he hasn’t: “I don’t do anything at all,” he said. “I don’t practice singing at home, not at all. Rehearsing is the practice. These guys [his band mates] are always having a go at me for not, but I have to do it this way.”

Exactly.....that’s why you plan for the retirement years. I’m doing the things I enjoy and find useful and helpful. I certainly am not doing what I did throughout my work career...nor desire to.
But I just could never get used to Daryl playing Hackett’s solos.
LOL, who didn’t date her back then. Maybe she wasn’t as moonbatty back then, who knows?
Not having Chester Thompson on tour this time is also a real bummer. He and Phil apparently had a falling out several years ago and have not talked since. (Phil was apparently snotty with him one day and that was pretty much it).
Phil’s son Nic appears to be a “decent” drummer and has taken over as lead drummer now that Phil can’t swing the sticks any longer, but he’s no Chester. And without Phil mirroring Chester on drums during awesome segments like Los Endos or Conversation with Two Stools..it’s unfortunately not quite the same as even the 2008 show..
At one time, Fish, of Marillion may have worked as a replacement for Phil, but he shot his voice out years ago, he’s done a few songs with Tony, which were pretty good.
Not going to let the CCP virus stop me from seeing them one last time. Of course most of the audience will likely be the same age or a few years younger than the band, hence i doubt they’ll be much screaming.
In case you haven’t checked- you can find just about anything on youtube. I found the bootlegs for every Genesis concert i attended (or at leas the ones I wanted to find) as well as Zeppelin, Queen, Yes concerts i saw on youtube.
Unfortunately have not found that many by the Moody Blues.
Genesis is my personal favorite band since I first bought The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway when it was first released. By the time there were only three original members they got a little too “pop” for me, but I consider them one of the all around greatest prog rock bands.
But art is subjective. My wife’s not a fan.
Rick Beato did a great video analyzing “Dance on a Volcano”

For me, if you look up “over rated band” in the dictionary, you should find a picture of the Rolling Stones. :D
Ray Wilson did (IMHO) a great job taking over for Phil on Calling All Stations. The album was widely panned, but I could never figure out why as it was pretty solid - especially with Tony still writing the majority of the material.
Ray got pretty screwed in the deal as I recall, which is too bad. He has a great voice and there are some pretty solid YouTube videos of him performing Genesis material that are worth the watch..
It’s probably going to be like McCartney’s tours. His voice is shot, but nobody cares, because everybody’s singing along anyway.
Same here. I saw them in ‘80. That is my memory of their live show.
Ray actually lives in Poland now, guess his wife is from there.
I won’t look at the setlist but i can imagine 20,000+ singing along to Ripples.
Yes I’ve heard a lot of the Duke tour bootlegs those were great shows, Phil was in top form.
I still get chills when I hear Phil sing “Guide Vocal” from Duke. Duke was their last really great album (if only Please Don’t Ask, wasn’t on it, should have been on Phil’s solo album)
Without Peter Gabriel then I’m not interested. Phil Collins is way overrated IMHO.
Although Mayhew wasn't the drummer Phil was, lol.
Phil actually did work with Ant Phillips.
This was actually supposed to be Phil’s first solo single, around 1974, but the record company said it sounded too much like Genesis, LOL.

“These Hollywood performers of the 60’s plus generation somehow think they can stand the test of time. Better to let the next generations have their shot.”
Well the next generation(s) have taken their shot and it was not very memorable. Fans still want to see the 70s rockers and it won’t be too much longer before all that dies out.
I think it’s great that these rock musicians are still performing despite health issues. I guess I don’t subscribe to the Grace Slick dogma.
