Mountain Goat Turns Tables, Killing Grizzly Bear with Horn Puncture Wounds

But what could’ve possibly taken down one of these enormous beasts? Another grizzly? Illegal poaching? Nope.

A mountain goat. Several deep puncture wounds – one beneath each armpit and one into the neck – confirm the fatal blows came from a species that is common prey to brown bears.

“Grizzly bear predation of mountain goats is relatively common, and I guess the mountain goat was successful in this instance and turned the tables on the grizzly,”

“The necropsy determined that the female grizzly bear died of natural causes, which is due to an unsuccessful predation attempt of a mountain goat,”

“So in turn the defensive response of the mountain goat would be to protect itself using its sharp horns.”

And it clearly works.

That is mind boggling. Surely some of them must fall.

Well, they used to, when the fainting goats had the job.

I had a mama hen defending her baby chicks once against a neighbor's dog. Before I could intervene, the hen had ran the dog off.

I can only figure that the pooch decided it wasn't worth it because there was no way that mama or baby chicks would've survived if the dog has been determined.

I gave the pooch a shot of rock salt in the backside to make sure he wouldn't return.

And make certain they have a safe happy ending.

That was how I knew of the ibex on the dam.

I forget which freeper it is, but he killed a bear with a knife! And not a cub either. IIRC correctly his dog was involved in the fight as well.
