Partridge Family - She'd Rather Have The Rain (1971)
Out On The YouTube ^

Actually "She'd Rather Have Rueben Kincaid" if you were to see the music video.. Rueben Kincaid, manager of the Partridge Family, was obviously a lady-killer and got all the nice-looking women on that show.

This is a Cashman-West song that got a lot of airplay half a century ago.

It was featured on the Partridge Family's blockbuster second album called "Up To Date" and during 1971, you could not turn around without hearing a song from that record.

"I'll Meet You Halfway", "Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted", and "Umbrella Man" were just a few other standout tracks from that magnum opus

It was also a massive hit that year by a band called Heaven Bound (with Tony Scotti) that same year. Except the gender in the song title was changed and so that hit was titled "He'd Rather Have The Rain."

Still a good song. 1971 was probably one of the best years for pop music in the entire 20th Century. I highly recommend the book "Never A Dull Moment" by David Hepworth which was all about the pop music scene of 1971.

“Doesn’t Somebody Want To Be Wanted”

That was the song that was playing during the infamous WOWO EBS False Alarm (February 20, 1971)

They had some surprisingly good songs for a weekly television show.

Well if the world was ending in a nuclear holocaust, you could do worse than go out with the Partridge Family.

I believe one of their many hits was “How Can I Be Sure?”
It was more a solo for David than a group effort, sort of the way the song “Michelle” was totally performed by Paul McCartney, at least vocally it was.

*”How Can I Be Sure” was written by Eddie Brigati and Felix Cavaliere of The Rascals.

I used to get Susan Dey and Peggy Lipton mixed up.
Later on, I could see they are not alike at all if you really look. Susan’s eyes are more distinct, and she tended to smile a lot.
Peggy had smooth, almost a nordic look to her, and kept a more placid expression in public. A young Greta Garbo.

Point Me In The Direction Of Albuquerque is much underrated.

I don't know why, but when I think of the Partridge Family I immediately go to The Cowsills.

Here they are from 2017, and when they perform Hair, it is very solid.

I may still have a Partridge Family album or two, but the lunchbox is long gone. Too bad my pack rat mother didn’t save that one and the Laugh-In one - highly collectible!
