Washington Football Team to host rare NFL Pride Night vs. Giants on Thursday

Washington will welcome the LGBTQ community with an official Pride Night, a rarity in the NFL and a first for the team. The Detroit Lions hosted a similar event in 2019. The news arrives months after Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib announced himself as the league's first openly gay active player, a milestone for the NFL and American sports.

What does this mean? The Washington Football Team has reserved blocks of tickets at different prices throughout FedEx Field for Pride Night attendees to watch the game together. The team will also host a pregame party with beer, wine and food for Pride Night guests.

Per Washington's Metro Weekly, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington and LGBTQ marching band DC’s Different Drummers will perform at the game. Per the Washington Blade, the Washington Football Team will join the Capitals, Wizards, Mystics, Kastles, Spirit, Prodigy, DC United, Old Glory DC and Citi Open in hosting Pride Night events in conjunction with organizer Team DC. The Nationals have also hosted similar events.

Pride Night events like Washington's offer football fans in the LGBTQ community a sense of welcome and inclusion that isn't always present in sports arenas.

“Establishing these relationships is important and who knows where this leads when you are embraced in a positive way," Team DC organizer Brent Minor told the Blade. "When you can break down a barrier between the LGBTQ community and the NFL, that’s rarefied air.”

Minor said that his organization considered organizing events with the franchise, but waited until the team changed its name to put Thursday's event together.

“...the league’s first openly gay active player, a milestone for the NFL and American sports.”

Why? What does a players personal sex orientation have to do with the game played? Is there going to have to be new rules added? Are there going to be sections for gays only in the stadiums. Is this going to open up a variety of questions concerning public restrooms? Are the team stores going to feature gay trinkets or the players uniform in rainbow?

They do this at Disney each year since 1991, but they originally closed the park for certain hours to open it up to the gay community and didn’t mix straight people. But obvious bottom line problems have caused them to mix the orientations and it has not worked well.

Fights, both physical and vocal along with open scenes of homosexual copulation in plain view that have been identified in some cases by minor kids are prevalent and creating a lot of the conflicts.

This situation in Washington may be a real problem. And for one football player’s sexual orientation that needs to stay in he bedroom and not on the field, isn’t that excessive? And the blacks thought they were being harmed. Get ready for this one.

I don’t see the NFL surviving for too much longer.

He does what goes on at any sporting event specifically include or exclude any particular individual or group of people? If I go to a game, nobody there knows knows anything me. I am just one thousands of people who bought a ticket and hope to enjoy the game. I don’t know how one’s sexual proclivities stop that from happening.

Why don’t they just set up chairs in the locker room and let the LGBQT types watch the players shower?

I’m old enough to remember Len Dawson smoking at Super Bowl. I miss those days. Can you imagine this happening back in the day?

I’m sure it won’t be long before they have a gay national anthem that will be performed before each NFL, NHL, MLB, game! I’m also pretty sure that Nascar isn’t far behind given how woke they’ve become!

“Pride Night events like Washington’s offer football fans in the LGBTQ community a sense of welcome and inclusion that isn’t always present in sports arenas.”

More divisive nonsense.

Real inclusion is gay guys being welcomed as fans of whatever team. That already exists these days.

This is just trying to remind people of their differences and “oppression”.

How about Washington winning a game or two and leave the alphabet soup slurpers at the gates?

/SARC super! How about changing “Hail to the Redskins” by making all the players Jewish so the theme song would become “Hail to the Foreskins”?

Just another reason why I won’t watch NFL this year. They can go woke themselves.

What do they mean "rare" NFL pride night?
Every NFL football game is a LGBTQRS pride event.

NFL tries to expand their viewership by appealing to gays and women. Of course this drives away their existing viewers.
