An enzyme in Japanese food natto beans could help to prevent Covid-19 infection, according to research conducted by Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT).
The fermented soya beans, which have been a popular foodstuff in Japan for over 1,000 years, contain extracts which researchers believe break down spike proteins on the surface of coronavirus, in turn preventing it from infecting other cells.
This is a fairly significant discovery because people become infected with Covid when the spike proteins on the virus' surface become attached to receptors on the human cell.
If natto beans break down the spike proteins, it could prevent the virus from attaching to the human cell and therefore prevent infection.
It is not yet certain as to what the exact molecular mechanism responsible for destroying the spike protein is, but it is thought more than one enzyme may be involved.
Scientists combined the extract with the Covid virus in test tubes and discovered it prevented infection of cultured cells.
However, since the experiment used extract, it is currently unclear as to whether simply eating the natto beans would produce the same results.
What are natto beans?
Natto is a traditional Japanese dish made of fermented soya beans, known for its slimy, sticky and stringy texture.
The flavour is often described as nutty, with the beans typically served with rice and soy sauce.
A recognised health food, natto is lauded for its highly nutritious qualities, with the fermentation developing high levels of probiotics which can improve digestion.
Other suggested health benefits include strengthening the immune system and promoting a healthier heart.
Indeed, Japan has the longest life expectancy in the world, with low occurrence of strokes and heart disease.
What have scientists said about the experiment?
Although early experiments suggest natto beans could play a role in treating Covid, further research is required to understand how this could work in humans.
Speaking to Japanese newspaper Mainichi Shimbun, author of the study Tetsuya Mizutani said: "Further verification is needed to determine whether it could be a method to prevent an increase in the number of infected people if there are antiviral properties in the food product."
Matti beans taste nasty
Rarely, though it is delicious. I very rarely get some raw milk from the Amish.
I’m training, and maintaining a “Paleo” diet.
Mostly animal, vegetable, and fruit.
Veggies are:
1. Broccoli
2. Lettuce with Bell Peppers
3. String Beans
Fruit:
1. Berries
2. Bananas
3. Mango
I’m trying to lean out while maintaining strength and speed.
I don’t pretend that what I do is necessary for health reasons, but for performance reasons.
So cool! I eat natto daily because it’s high in K2. Maybe that is why I’ve never gotten the dreaded disease. Natto is a fermented soy bean. You can mix it with rice and spices, etc, or just eat it plain. It’s an acquired taste for sure. And when you fork it up, long strings connect the bite to the plate. I roll my fork like I’m twirling pasta, otherwise you end up with these hair-like strings dangling from your chin. :p It’s pretty ridiculous.
Fermented Natto beans is an excellent source of vitamin K2-MK7, which has been shown to help keep arteries free from plaque.
I’ve never had it frozen.
I love natto...this is good news.
That’s the only way to buy it from Asian stores. You pick out one styrofoam serving and let it thaw in the frig or on the counter.
It can sit there a day without getting smelly, but two or three will start to impart an ammonia smell and taste.
By the way, the vinegar neutralizes the ammonia.
Does it come in pill form?
I believe there are supplements like nattokinase.
+1
Soy has phytoestrogens, which is different and does different things biologically. The Asians have been downing soy for a zillion years and they're certainly not girly. It's only when soy started taking people away from eating meat that the estrogen scare began. Don't worry, it's not going to give you moobs and sap your muscle strength.
And another thing ... as much as you believe that big pharma, big tobacco, big auto, big everything lies and obfuscates, believe also that big ag does the same thing.
And they buy a lot of politicians and advertising to make sure that you have the correct opinions about certain foods, especially the ones that cut into the sales of animal products.
Follow the money.
There is an extract of the natto beans, nattokinase, that is taken to help regulate cardiac health (blood, circulation, etc.)...readily available through health food stores, Amazon, etc. Frequently, paired with serrapeptase. Lumbrokinase is another extract that is supposed to have beneficial properties. Related to the kinase treatments to break up clots in the circulatory system
I take a pill daily as a blood thinner instead of 81 mg asprin. (Different brand...this looks cheaper!)
Japan air serves natto on its long distance flights. The natto helps to prevent deep leg thrombosis clotting.
More info on Natto/Nattokinase
I'd add that it smells like toe jam.
IIRC, ivermectin was discovered in Japan as a product of a particular bacteria's waste. Could it be, at least in part, that the fermentation of natto beans involves the same bacteria?
