VANCOUVER, Wash. — A Vancouver man will serve the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for the murder of Nikki Kuhnhausen.
Kuhnhausen, who is transgender, disappeared in June 2019. Her remains were found nearly six months later on Larch Mountain in a remote part of Northeast Clark County.
Six months later, police arrested David Bogdanov in connection with her death. Bogdanov claimed he killed Kuhnhausen in self-defense after a sexual encounter where he found out she was transgender, and said that she attacked him.
Prosecutors disputed Bogdanov's statements about how he killed Kuhnhausen and hid her body, saying the evidence shows that this was not a justifiable homicide.
On August 27, a jury found Bogdanov guilty of murder in the second degree and malicious harassment. Then on Thursday, Bogdanov was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Judge David Gregerson became emotional when reading his statement about the case and trial, pointing to Kuhnhausen's identity and the challenges she faces as a transgender teen.
Surrounded by family and friends, Nikki's mom spoke outside of the courtroom after the verdict.
"You know she was just a baby, she was just a teenager and he took her life and you know, he got the maximum and that's what he deserves," said Lisa Woods.
In court today, the judge said the trial should represent the movement in the community from darkness to light.

That is not a capital crime and didn’t desrve to be murdered over it.
If the killer identifies as “not guilty”, wouldn’t the jury have to respect that?
If they’ve proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the guy murdered it, then lack or presence of junk should have no effect on the sentence. It’s a murder. This is why “hate crime” laws are such garbage.

The guy he attacked should have not tried to hide the encounter. His claim of self defense because a lunatic reacted badly when his delusions weren’t honored might have been better received.
So I take it from some of replies that we should be able to kill the mentally ill and the immoral at will?
Well, if it’s murder, he ought to have been hanged.
If the boy actually got violent over his delusion not being honored then it would have been self defense.
Based on the photos, it’s hard to believe the man didn’t know the victim wasn’t female.

If they are attacking other folks and they die as a consequence of it that’s not just killing them “at will”.

Now that doesn't excuse the killing of this person. If the murderer was truly a heterosexual, than based on the photo, he has pretty low standards for women!
Not quite but there are somethings folks ought not do, if they were thinking rationally. It doesn’t mean someone deserves to be murdered, and it doesn’t mitigate the guilty, but it is highly dangerous to do some things like smoking while fueling your car, being white and walking alone in the middle of the night in downtown Chicago, being a young girl and letting a stranger buy her drinks in a dicey bar, mixing illicit drugs and alcohol, and enticing a straight man to ignorantly have sex with another man. These cases—and there have been more than one such—are the reason I have no respect for the transgender movement because it is based on deception.
But they are dead and wouldn’t have been murdered if they were honest with who they were.
