PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland police officers will not be required to get vaccinated against COVID-19 under the city's vaccine mandate, Mayor Ted Wheeler said Wednesday.
The city announced on August 30 it would require all city employees to be vaccinated or risk losing their jobs.
The city initially interpreted Gov. Brown's order requiring all health care workers in Oregon to be vaccinated to legally include police officers, who receive some medical training. But new guidance from the Oregon Health Authority, first reported by OPB, said police officers are "probably not" covered under this rule because, for most of them, providing medical care is not a "fundamental part of their job."
Because of that updated guidance, the city will not apply the mandate to Portland police officers.
The full statement from Mayor Wheeler reads:
I am disappointed that we can’t hold all of our City employees to the same vaccine requirement. However, state law prohibits us from requiring vaccinations for police officers unless there’s a federal or state law, regulation or rule that mandates they get vaccinated.

Such an intelligent virus - it can discern its potential victims by profession as well as distance and whether the potential victim has a face condom on or not.

Oregon is exempting the cops so they’ll have muscle to force mandates and edicts on the rest of Oregon.
Mandates for certain groups and not others proves the sheer insanity of the mandates themselves.
They won’t. Insanity is the norm here.

Actually it’s the other way around. Some state police and fire fighters are suing the state on the grounds it is a discriminatory ruling by the governor.
Ted doesn’t want to be part of that lawsuit.

A bit discriminatory to say it is required for some people and not for others. If it becomes legally required for some, but not others, in this case the police, does that not mean that they are above the law?
This is actually great for the people who don’t want to be vaccinated grounds for law suits everywhere!!
