'Crisis Isn't Over': Progressives Push Biden to Revive Unemployment Benefits Amid Pandemic (only 9.38 years left)

Progressives lawmakers, including Representatives Jamaal Bowman and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have urged President Joe Biden to revive the federal pandemic-related unemployment benefits that will expire Monday for millions of jobless American workers amid the ongoing pandemic.

About 7.5 million unemployed workers will lose all their unemployment benefits and an additional 3 million will no longer receive a $300 weekly boost provided by their state when three federally funded jobless aid programs lapse Monday, according to estimates from the Century Foundation.

"We need to extend the expanded UI for millions of unemployed workers because this crisis isn't over. People are not only dealing with COVID surges; they're dealing with impacts of climate change, from extreme flooding in my district to heat waves and fires in the West," Bowman, a New York Democrat, said in a statement to Newsweek.

The benefits have previously been renewed after lapsing, but the Biden administration said it will allow the benefits to expire on Labor Day.

And while the Biden administration has encourages states to reallocate existing federal funds to continue aid to the jobless, none have moved to do so.

Representatives Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Cori Bush, three members of the "squad," have already called for extending the benefits. Ocasio-Cortez told Insider the benefits expiration is a "major concern," Omar said a revival of the benefits was "necessary" and a spokesperson for Bush confirmed she supports an extension.

But other prominent progressive lawmakers - including Senators Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Representatives Maxine Waters, Pramila Jayapal and Ayanna Pressley - who are otherwise outspoken on wealth inequality have remained noticeably quiet on the expiration of the federal jobless aid. According to Insider, the 96-member Congressional Progressives Caucus are still in discussion on whether to press Biden for a revival of the benefits.

So the unemployed will continue to get free loot because of 'the impacts of climate change'? I predict that it will continue for exactly 9.38 years. Science.

the NY gov and legislature has extended the eviction protection for non payment of rent. But No extension of UI.

Why use government money in the form of UI benefits to help people pay their rent when instead you can have the landlords effectively pay the person’s rent at no cost to the government.

Million unemployed, yet million of jobs that are available go unfilled, and the expected hires last month fell short by half a million.

I wonder if it has anything to do with "free money"?

With the mandatory vaccines there will be a resurgence of a black market in good and services—those folks may be working hard but nothing will show up on official statistics.

And yet there are “Help Wanted” signs everywhere as employers look to find people who will work.

“ millions of jobless American workers amid the ongoing pandemic. “

Voluntarily jobless. Help wanted signs are literally everywhere. Professional jobs, service industry jobs, jobs, jobs. Not buying the “ongoing pandemic” trope either.

Signs all over town for fast food jobs at $17.00 per hour. Those jobs can lead to supervisory jobs, management jobs, and even ownership of a restaurant for those who are motivated.

Many other area businesses have help wanted signs on display, no doubt at higher pay.

A retired friend of mine (age 65) took a part time job at Home Depot in order to keep active, he didn’t need the money. He enjoyed engaging with customers and helping them find materials for their projects. He said most of the younger employees just stood around and did the bare minimum. After three months the store manager asked to see him. The manager told him they had been watching him and he was doing an exceptional job. My friend was asked if he might be interested in a “career” with Home Depot, specifically moving into a management job. He declined because he did not wish to work full time and didn’t need the income since he had lived below his means while working and has sufficient savings to fund his lifestyle.

The example above explodes the myth that entry level hourly jobs are a dead end. They can lead to good middle class jobs for those who are motivated to perform and add value to the company.

There are jobs for those who want to work and are motivated to excel at work. The problem government benefit kill the desire to work and the dumbing down of the education system has killed the motivation to excel. We have too many young people who live to play video games and interact on social media, instead of being productive citizens.

I read in Louisiana that due to the hurricane they are trying to get the democrat governor to reinstate the federal pandemic benefits that he ended five weeks earlier. Tons of businesses have been destroyed plus hundreds of thousands of people are without electricity.

The left wants everyone getting money from the government. They want all of a person’s money to come from the government. They want to the government to be the only employer, in other words communism is what the are aiming for and the public is too dense to see that.

I wonder if it has anything to do with “free money”?

_______________________________________________________

This is my post from another article, but it should help to answer your question:

I pointed out in another thread, those lazy fools thought the free money would last forever. In California, many were receiving $540/wk in State unemployment and another $600/wk in Fed COVID relief. That’s $1140/wk and included free rent. Trump eventually knocked the Fed benefit down to $300/wk but that’s still $840/wk.

It was a big free giveaway of new cars, big screen TVs, iPhones, pizza, beer, video games and weed which is why so many have refused to go back to work. The Port of Los Angeles is about a mile away from me and I counted three dozen cargo container ships anchored off the coast this weekend. I was told by a few different people it is because the port doesn’t have the manpower available to unload them which sounds logical to me. If I was a dock worker and had a choice between breaking my back unloading freight or sitting on my couch drinking beer, smoking weed, eating Cheetos and playing video games while receiving free rent and direct deposits from the government every week, I’d probably stay home, too.

But now that it appears the free money and rent is ending, the freeloaders are beginning to panic and demanding the Democrats find a way to continue the gravy train. The idoits should have put some of that money in the bank or under the mattress.

“The left wants everyone getting money from the government”

Meaning from those of us that pay taxes. Meaning dragging down the productive to support the unproductive. Sooner or later the productive will have their say.

Which is where most of these Squad members hail from. What’s more insane, the way these people think about economics or a country that allows these people in and then elects them to positions of ‘leadership’?
