The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it is investigating two salmonella outbreaks in 17 states that are linked to Italian meats like "salami, prosciutto, and other meats that can often be found in antipasto or charcuterie assortments."
There is an active investigation underway, but no recalls have been announced.
As of Tuesday, 36 people had fallen ill and 12 were hospitalized, the CDC said. The numbers could be higher, though, because many who have salmonella symptoms don't seek medical care. It also takes three to four weeks to figure out whether a sick person is part of the outbreak.
Epidemiologists are working to determine whether the two outbreaks are from the same source. In speaking to those who fell ill and were able to provide information, several varieties of meats such as salami, prosciutto, coppa and soppressata were reported.
The CDC is recommending that those at high risk for getting salmonella "heat Italian-style meats to an internal temperature of 165°F or until steaming hot before eating."
Thnkas!
Which mask do we wear for that?
Lol, who is going to heat salami and prosciutto before eating? Only going to happen if you’re putting them on a pizza.
It’s their own fault if they refused to wear a mask while eating.
Better hide the salami.......................
great and I just ate a bunch of salami, capacollo, and sopresatta for lunch....on pumpernickle rye with swiss, and wicked red sandwich spread.....oh well I hope its worth it it was a good sandwich.
Blaming it on Italian meats is so racist!
Just remember—no puking on the keyboard.
;-)
Requires a Booster Jab right?
Charcuterie boards are all the rage over here at the moment.
Could be people aren’t cleaning their board properly, not using good hyhene in prep, or leaving meats out too long.
Never heard of that sandwich spread. Looked it up. Sounds yummy!
Could the FDA/CDC give brandnames. Are they Italian or Italian style? Deli sliced or prepackaged. Prosciutto de Parma or San Danielle? Are they trying to put Citterio out of business in favor of Boars Head?
Oh no! 1st the Chinese with COVID-19, now the Italians with their meat. How much do I need to deal with at once?
I knew someone who did a “resto mod” on an old Airstream trailer, made it look like an old school 50’s era diner, chckerboard linoleum floor, stainless steel formica topped counter, etc. He hung a simulated a neon saying over the door that said “Sam and Ella’s Diner”😉🙂
*ring*
“Is Sal there?”
“Sal who?”
“Monella.”
“As of Tuesday, 36 people had fallen ill and 12 were hospitalized, the CDC said...”
So, with results like those, that means that the Italian meats are safe and effective, right?
you forget the cole slaw ...
That’ll kill you quicker than COVID.
