I asked a clerk at Walmart if they had any female to female USB connectors. He look at kinda strange and left. About the time I was done looking he came back and said they didn't carry them. I thought in today's world he might have been confused by the sexists pronouns that everyone wants to avoid.
Monoprice? MicroCenter? They may have them.
Try Best Buy.
He would probably have no difficulty pointing out the male to male connectors.../s
“Master - Slave” has been used in servo systems since they were first invented.
You should have asked him if they were selling Masters and Slaves.
I noticed a similar problem in the waning days of Radio Shack. People who worked there didn’t seem to know what products they had in their store. Is it a lack of training, high employee turnover so that knowledgeable people don’t stick around, or what causes this?
I’ve heard similar stories from some friends who work on their cars, that people at places such as O’Reilly Auto Parts, do not seem very knowledgeable about the products they sell.
I worked with a guy who didn’t like the use of master and slave in regards to SCADA systems.
These words will soon be gone, like master and slave terminals.
Female to female is pretty rare. Most cables are male to male, with an occasional male to female for changing connector type or as an extension.
I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before the wokesters demand new nomenclature for SPI bus signals. MISO (Master In Slave Out) and MOSI certainly will offend someone! Although SCLK might survive the woke, the Chip Select signal /CS is obviously discriminatory, putting some chips ahead of others...
Holy crap! That’s even worse!
Signs I saw on men’s/women’s bathroom doors at a western bar/restaurant (some years ago):
“Pistols” & “Holsters”
I’m sure modern snowflakes would be majorly “triggered”.
There was a radio station in Seattle where they were labeled, "Elton John" and "Olivia Newton-John."
LOL!
A new restaurant just opened up near us called "The Stupid Cow Cafe." On the neighborhood "NextDoor" app, some woman got her panties in a twist because the "name offends animals." Her idiocy really offends ME!
So, what are they gonna be, “Top/Bottom,” “Pitcher/Catcher”?
Year ago you could find just about anything at Wal-mart. Now it is the place where you find nothing.
Finally after many years they come out with USB-C that is mostly non-polarized... but you now have a need to do things like this.
A dual-connector thumb drive with both the old style USB connector on one end and a USB-C on the other.
It's always easier to do things the right way from the beginning.
Old USB devices without USB-C connectors are now problematic as they cannot be plugged into USB-C sockets :-/
A long time ago in electrical engineering, we used to call a female connector a socket and a male connector a plug.
We also called them g’zinta and g’zouta.
I don’t remember using male and female until more recently.
