Never name your company for a price...
Motel 6 was started in Santa Barbara, California, in 1962, and, indeed, as the name implies, the room cost six dollars a night for a single. The developers, William Becker and Paul Green, figured the price would cover their building costs and maintenance. Their first hotels had coin-operated black and white TVs. To say they were a “no-frills” motel chain would probably be an understatement. That was done so that the rooms could be cleaned quickly. The concept, cheap motel rooms, obviously caught on and they were imitated even by existing chains. The developers sold the chain in 1968 and by the 70s, the coin-op TVs were replaced by free color TVs and prices had to go up.

I bought a Barbesol nose and ear trimmer at the Dollar Tree a few weeks ago. Battery operated. This thing would be $10.00+ anywhere else

The problem is it will soon be the Two Dollar Store.

I read that Motel 6 is now $60 a night.

And . . . remember the Five and Dime stores?

Inflation - it's not just "Transitory".

It wasn’t there an article here yesterday that dollar stores were a scam and the markup and the margins are much higher at dollar stores than regular supermarkets?

I dunno about the article, but I do know that, from personal observation, the Dollar Store near my local supermarket is MUCH more expensive than the market. So obvious that I haven't been in one in years.

In any case, frozen pizza is certainly NOT the cheapest way to eat. Cook rice and dried beans, and you can eat for under a dollar a meal. Boring, and needs vitamin supplements, but probably more nutritious than frozen pizza. Poor people have lived for long periods on little else.

Your wife sounds like a good woman.

She is the best. Even puts up with me for some reason. I thank God for loaning her to me.

There’s a store I just heard about in Wisconsin called, ‘Five Below.’

It’s like a Dollar Store, but items can go as high as $5...and beyond!

Soon, only the truly wealthy among us can shop there.

But the results are the same. Buy, mark it up, and sell it.

Sure - but that’s the nature of retail. A brick-and-mortar retailer is not in business to guarantee customers the lowest price, but to provide convenience and service in the location where the store is. If prices are too high, customers will drive a few more miles to the dollar store (or shop online) - if they are just right the items will sell and the store will make enough profit to keep operating.

Demanding price equity will lead to a hundred million unemployed and a nation of government-sponsored Walmarts…as it already is.

In the original example, the guy buying from the dollar store to resell isn’t getting as low a price as he could get from a distributor, but maybe he has poor cash flow or bad credit.

Yeah, I use to go there before moving back to Morgan Hill.

Great for “in a pinch” items.

I refuse to be embarrassed by going to garage sales, Goodwill or the Dollar store....

I can pay Dollar store or I can more most everywhere else for the same dang item.....

its the stupid people or the too rich people that pay full price for something.
