CDC Recommends Travelers at Higher Risk of COVID to Avoid Cruise Ship Travel

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has updated its cruise ship travel notice for travelers at high for COVID to avoid all cruise ship travel. The update impacts all U.S. cruise operations.

CDC Updates Cruise Travel Notice The CDC updated its cruise travel notice on August 20, which impacts travelers who are more at risk of catching severe illness regardless of vaccination status. The summer says, “People with an increased risk of severe illness should also avoid travel on cruise ships, including river cruises, regardless of vaccination status.”

Those under the increased risk of severe illness from COVID include a wide range of people, such as older adults. According to the CDC, “More than 80% of COVID-19 deaths occur in people over age 65, and more than 95% of COVID-19 deaths occur in people older than 45.”

People with certain underlying medical conditions, including those who are overweight, are also under the high-risk category. The CDC says that those who are are more at risk may need hospitalization, intensive care, and a ventilator to help breathe.

A lot of this comes as the Delta variant is a cause of concern and continues to spread. Recently cruise lines have increased their protocols for this reason, with many now requiring fully vaccinated passengers to show a negative test result before cruising. You can check who is at increased risk for severe illness over on the CDC website.

The new update is in addition to the recommendations already in place, including travelers who are not fully vaccinated to avoid cruise travel. People should still wear masks when in shared spaces, and non-vaccinated people should still self-quarantine for seven days after cruise travel.

The Bahamas recently issued an emergency order for cruise passengers 12 and over to be fully vaccinated to be allowed entry at any of its ports, including the private islands. For now, the CDC level remains at 3, and cruising continues.

We could see cruise lines implement details on their protocol pages with the new CDC recommendations. Cruise lines have already said they remain committed to the CDC guidance on keeping guests and crew safe.

We certainly have other things to concern ourselves with besides Cruise info. Things like Afghanistan, Hurricane Henri, a demented President, crime, the vaxed vs unvaxed, and a collapsing country, etc.

I figure a little distraction to the ongoing saga of the Cruise Line problems might be in order.

The CDC updated its cruise travel notice on August 20, which impacts travelers who are more at risk of catching severe illness regardless of vaccination status.

There are a couple more things that leapt out at me in the article like the Bahamas changing the port and private Island rules, and the usual propaganda from the Cruise lines about how they are so concerned about the safety of the passengers. I would think their main concern would be to keep cruising and make some revenue to pay back the Billions they have borrowed. -Tom

I finally got a mysterious credit card refund on my cruise from last year that I had disputed but was denied

I read somewhere the NCL decided it was cheaper to return money than to have the credits outstanding on the books

I think part of it was a solvency issue as well.

By higher risk, they mean vaccinated people.

Hillary Duff just posted that she got COVID on the set despite being vaxxed and is feeling pretty bad.

Its clear the vax doesnt keep you from getting very sick...but it perhaps keeps the virus from killing you.

Would this warning be for our intrepid, 82y/o, heavily vaxxed, can do more one-armed push ups than Jack Palance, robo poster?

OK—I give up.

What does dementia have to do with killing folks from Covid?

No matter how the cruise lines spin it, the CDC is still trying to do them in.-Tom

I wondered about that too. Perhaps because dementia usually goes with the more aged and the more elderly in general have a higher morbidity. That or the elderly with dementia tend to be in nursing facilities which makes them more vulnerable due to disease spreading.

“What does dementia have to do with killing folks from Covid?”

I’m guessing they were deaths of elderly in care homes. I was surprised at the high blood pressure being the second.

I guess the moral of that story is that if you get dementia you better hope you have relatives that let you stay with them—instead of going to a nursing home.

Or... one side effect of COVID-19 is "brain fog," where people complain of not being able to think clearly.

If someone with dementia is already suffering a brain disease, the conditions that cause "brain fog" may exacerbate an already compromised brain.

“By higher risk, they mean vaccinated people”.

Exactly!

I thought vaxed people were safe but they sure are coming down with covid. Same with masks but they push the useless masks.

This is all such a scam from top to bottom.
